UMich and Inflation?

<p>So, I was a little curious and found this:
College</a> of Literature, Science, and the Arts : Students</p>

<p>And then this:
Latin</a> honors cutoffs stay steady | Yale Daily News</p>

<p>Of course, Yale is known for grade inflation, along with Harvard. Yet, UMich's cut-offs for honors are steady with Yale's. Does this mean anything or am I reading to far into this stat? </p>

<p>Does Highest Distinction mean top 5% (ie. equivalent to summa cum laude)? </p>

<p>I found this quite interesting. What do you all think? Especially current students who may know much more about this.</p>

<p>OK, so the 2 aren’t the same but they are sort of similar (5%, 15%, 30% at Yale v. 3%, 10%, 25% at U of M). </p>

<p>Anyone want to weigh in on this?</p>
