UMich Ann Arbor vs Notre Dame vs UVA for Computer Science & Business undergrad

Lol my points are from an unbiased perspective. I don’t like either school.

ND is up north by Chicago. It will be cold most of the year. UVA might not even get snow in the winter.

If you’re OOS, UVA won’t help much, ND will since it’s private…if you qualify for aid.

Social life is debatable.

Really want to visit but not sure if I’ll have time before EA… Now another one of my concern is the usual public vs private. I mean, UVA holds double the number of undergrads at Notre Dame… Not sure if I’m gonna like the packed-ness.

You can apply EA to all three universities and you won’t have to decide on where to go until May 1. It is impossible for anybody to tell you which university has a better social life.

Berkeley should be on your list if you’re applying OOS to Michigan and Virginia. CS is much better and it has the most urban environment.

Doesn’t UVa still meet need for OOS students or did they recently end that?

After looking into it, I think they do.* I assumed they wouldn’t like most other public schools. However, there is a push for loans instead of grants as they face funding problems.**

Suggestion to OP: run NPC for all three schools.

The net price calculator shows that ND will be best with financial aid followed by UVA and then UMich. But at the moment I’ve sort of concluded that UMich is superior in prestige compared to UVA and ND so just compared the latter two now… Btw how is the student’s 100% need met when it says my parents should still pay for 10~20 grand? :P

If you are going to get better Financial aid from ND, apply there, especially with UVA starting to cut some of their OOS financial aid.

It snows in Cville every year. Winters are pretty cold.

OP’s “prestige” based thinking is whack.

It snows in Cville every year. Winters are pretty cold.

OP’s “prestige” based thinking is whack.

Oh so weather isn’t that perfect in Cville as some say? Also I was just mentioning prestige as a factor that I consider because I’ve kind of gotten an idea of the other factors at the school from t he past replies.

I have to depend on these replies and what the internet says because I probably won’t have time to visit all before EA deadlines.

You do realize that you can apply EA to all three right? None of them have restrictive EA, and EA is not binding.

C ville weather is better than other two but hardly “perfect”. You can find full annual climate info easily on the net

I know I could EA to all of them but I already have other EA schools and don’t want to apply to too much places EA.

Why don’t you want to apply to too many schools EA?

“I have to depend on these replies and what the internet says because I probably won’t have time to visit all before EA deadlines.”

You should not depend in anything we say on CC. All we can do here is offer our opinions. You really need to conduct your own research and make a decision based on reason and fit. All the information you need can be found if you search hard enough.

On a related note, Michigan is not more prestigious than Notre Dame or UVa. All three of those universities enjoy great reputations, and I do not think any of them has the advantage in this domain.

+1 if anything, Michigan is the least prestigious. You’re looking into undergraduate program rankings which really don’t matter - only grad school does. All are top 30 universities and neither has an advantage over the others in terms of job placement. If anytjing, go where you want to live because of local prestige.

It does get somewhat cold in the winter at UVA. Spring, summer, and fall are hot. If weather matters a lot, look into Cali, TX, or FL schools.

Well yes that’s why I said “internet” too as I am researching on my own. Also I don’t want to apply to too many EAs because I do not want to spend too much money for the early round when I have several schools that I’m planning to apply in RD as well. I was just saying I really appreciate all the replies and read them carefully.

Huh?

Michigan is lower than both on USNews. Undergrad program rankings carry little significance.

Not hard to understand.
