I would recommend you to call the admissions office or the engineering department tomorrow (if COE has an office for transfer students that would be better).
UMich is a large school and I’m afraid they might forget your request if you don’t contact them and follow the progress.
I would think that people get these emails when their classes are not currently in UMich’s credit transfer database. My guess is that they are just reaching out to students so that they can evaluate the credits and not have to just toss the application out.
Good news is that someone who had their checklist completed Feb 1st got accepted, so that means they’re finally sending decisions out for the February batch! Good luck everyone
So I haven’t heard anything back from UMich since I submitted my application 1/30. No emails regarding courses, credits, transcripts, nothing. I asked if emails were a positive indication because it seems like some of you got them and I didn’t. Also I only have 44 transferable credits (7 in progress), which means they will probably consider me an incoming sophomore instead of junior, which is harder to get in. Does that indicate that I will likely be rejected? If I’m rejected for low credits and they tell me to apply again next year I’m never getting in because my gpa will plummet after this semester.
I don’t know about the LSA since I’m applying to the CoE, but I will share some information that I have learned through the admissions department and through my own personal experiences.
At least for CoE, the number of credits that you have does not give you any priority or put you at any disadvantage. I do not know if this is the same for LSA, but I might assume that it is.
Emails are not really an indicator of admission. The financial aid emails are not an indicator and emails regarding credits more than likely have to do with credit evaluation and nothing else.
This is what I have gathered through my time applying to UMich. I (and others) can speak from experience regarding the emails being indicators; we know that they are not. I also directly learned from CoE admissions regarding credits giving applicants some priority; we now know that this is now true.
Just wanted to share some information. Good luck everyone!
I don’t think the e-mails really mean anything. I received few if not no emails before I was accepted. Also, LSA does prefer juniors, so it is a little more challenging to get in with less than 55+ credits, but you should still be fine! Best of luck!
Thanks for clearing this up for me. Maybe my misconception around the preference for admitting juniors came from information from the LSA. So, it may only be the CoE that does not have a preference.
I must say this is probably one of the most supportive CC I’ve ever seen! All of you guys are amazing canidates and are going to do extremely well no matter where you end up
STATS:
3.5 College gpa
3.1 High school gpa
1310 SAT
44 transferrable credits
Applying from MSU
“The transfer admission decision involves many factors including the rigor of your college courses and the grades achieved in those courses. Depending on the number of transferable college credits, we also consider your high school achievement including academic grade point average and your ACT or SAT scores, if taken. Regretfully, at this time we feel that the University of Michigan is not an appropriate match for your unique credentials and academic achievements.” I was wondering if anyone else that was denied received a letter with the same wording, or if this is directed towards me. It didn’t say anything about my essays or personal characteristics, which I feel were the strongest part of my application. GPA is what killed me so I was wondering. I know some people are told to reapply next semester, but it didn’t mention that in my letter. The only thing that gives me hope is “at this time.”
Should I take some courses over the summer, earn more transferrable credits, bring my gpa up, and reapply for Winter 2023? Or is this it?
