I know it sounds cheesy; but it isn’t over til you decide it’s over. If you really want to go to Michigan, don’t call it here!
I’d suggest reaching out to meet with a Michigan Advisor asap… and pick their brain on the best course of action. But yeah, I’d think they’d tell you the first step would be getting your GPA up.
Out of curiosity, when was your checklist completed?
My friend applied Michigan math last year. He was rejected but received a personalized letter saying he’s strong but the school wanted his sophomore grades to send him the acceptance. His high school GPA is the weakest part of his application. He applied this year and was accepted a couple of days ago.
I really really wants a decision by now. Also, I thought that UMich only sends out acceptance in this early stage of admissions, so I am probably wrong on that because I got that impression from first-year application lmao…

the more credits you have, the less they tend to care about your hs gpa, sat and/or act, especially if you’d be transferring as an oncoming junior, it’d be more weighted on your college GPA and the difficulty of your classes (mainly how many 300 and 400 level courses you have taken within your first 2 years of college).
For some perspective for you and everyone stalking this thread in the same situation. I had a low high school gpa (~3.3) due to a few medical leaves my first two years of high school and I got into LSA for the fall term as a junior. I didn’t have a perfect college GPA either (3.6) but I had a strong upwards trend and my most recent semester was a 4.0. My best advice is to keep your GPA ABOVE a 3.5 LSA explicitly says online that applicants with a GPA below a 3.5 aren’t competitive. But I’ve only seen instate applicants get in with a 3.5 so I’d recommend closer to a 3.6. Even tho I have seen someone get in oos with a 3.45 just isn’t as likely. LSA also gives preference to applicants with over 50 credits and once you hit that threshold your hs record is no long heavily considered. I would also say be involved and have ec’s of some kind if that’s a job or a leadership position in a club it doesn’t matter just show you’re doing something. Umich also seems more likely to admit applicants who submit letters of rec (I submitted two) so I’d highly recommend those if you can get good ones. These are just observations I’ve had stalking threads, my personal experience and things I’ve seen on my deep dives on the LSA admissions page ahhaha. There are always expectations to everything and circumstances matter more than you think so also explain anything that couldn’t affected your grades in hs or college and/involvement. And I would also recommend emailing admissions (not constantly like maybe once) to update them on any new activities, awards or circumstances relating to your application.
Good luck you and everyone else reading this are amazing candidates and will do great things. If umich doesn’t work out this time try again! Or if not there is a great school out there you’ll be very happy at

How many credits did you have? I was wondering if the lack of credits resulted in my denial, due to my high school gpa. My college gpa wasn’t that low, and I even explained the circumstances behind that. Also by 50 credits do you mean 50 credits completed by application submission or 50 credits completed after this semester?
I had 62 credits after this semester! I believe they count your in progress credits towards their calculations.

Thanks for your response!
I want to make it super clear I’m not in admissions this is purely my own speculation based on my app and what I’ve seen. I also want to note that I got into a school my freshman year that my gpa was .6 below the average for. There’s always a chance don’t give up hope

You’re right! Best wishes to everyone.
Is it worth it to send admissions an update email? I got an award and more involvement positions since submitting my application, but I’m not sure if there is a point to sending an update. I know for undergrad they specifically requested no updates so I’m not sure if this is different
when did you submit your application and finish your checklist?
I did and they added it to my file! So it might be worth it!
What email did you use if you don’t mind me asking… I emailed an update to oua-transfer@umich.edu including my name and UMID almost a month ago and have gotten no response.
This is the response I received
Thank you for your email.
This information has been received. Congratulations on your accomplishments!
Okay, thank you! Did you just send an email or did you format it a certain way? Like is there a certain subject line I should use?
Also does anyone know how total incoming credits is calculated? I know LSA cares about credit amounts. Do they consider AP/IB credit when considering your total incoming credits, or just college credit? With AP credit I exceed their preferred threshold but without them I’m not far off. Just wondering if it will make a large difference
I also send update emails and I was always title the emails “update on my activities”. I also start with a greet like “good afternoon, I hope you have had a great semester so far!” Something like that then I explain my accomplishments and new activities. I tend to put emphasis on the skills I’m using. Like leadership and organization it’s good to use buzz words like you would on the common app!
