<p>My friend Annabelle was just accepted into UMich for Art and she is wondering whether or not its department is nationally recognized. If you could provide any comments, concerns, etc....that would be great!</p>

<p>Michigan School of Art and Design (SOAD) has undergone some pretty big changes in the last few years. They're reorganized the curriculum and added a lot of requirements. All students have to bring a computer loaded with design software, and all students are expected to graduate knowing "the business" of art. They increased studio space and added a downtown art gallery to showcase student work.</p>
<p>Your friend should talk to some current students about the program, see how they like it. SOAD has a new staffer dedicated to recruiting and she may be able to direct your friend to some good resources.</p>
