I know that Ross has its employment profile up, but exactly how tough is it to break into the top 5 consulting firms? Do they recruit at U of M more than they do at other top schools? And is it neccessary to be at the very top of your class?

It is good......just go to Ross and do well in school. you can't ask for anything more.

Not every top consulting firm recruits Michigan BBA's, but a good enough number of them do. They definitely recruit more at other top schools like the ivy league, but placement from Michigan is decent, especially in the Chicago offices. Bain and BCG are the only 2 elite consulting firms that recruit for summer AC's. Only about one or two get offers for those, though. Usually there are anywhere from 3 to 5 per year going into ONE of M/B/B upon graduation, with around 1 (sometimes none) going to the other 2.
