Umich vs UVA BmE

Hello community,

I just got accepted to UVA and got accepted EA for UMich BmE. To say the least, I am conflicted in choosing between the two schools. I am planning to go BmE with a pre-med track.

I understand both have great programs, but I was wondering what the pro's / cons of each program are.

I don't mind weather as I am a New Englander, and I understand that one must apply for UVA's BmE Program.

Any help or comments would be great!

Although you do not have to apply to the BME program at Michigan, I am fairly certain that the program is restricted. If I recall, you require a minimum GPA of 3.2 to get into the program, but I may be mistaken. At any rate, you cannot go wrong academically, but the schools have varying campus environments and culture. I recommend you go for fit.

Michigan is far superior to UVA in overall engineering and the hard sciences. In case you change your mind about what you want to major in. It does happen frequently and is something to consider.

UMich is stronger in engineering from what I’ve heard, but if you choose to not do engineering anymore, UVA would be the better option. It has better programs outside of engineering.

You really can’t go wrong with either school. Lucky you get to make a choice between two amazing schools.

plue, where it is true that UVa has some porograms that are better than those at Michigan, it is not true across the board. In some fields, such as Business and History, Michigan and UVa are roughly equal. In other fields, such as the Anthropology, Economics, Mathematics, Political Science, Physics, Psychology and Sociology, Michigan is actually significant better than UVa. Overall, Michigan is significantly better than UVa academically. Where UVa matches Michigan is in providing an ideal setting for an undergraduate education.

“UMich is stronger in engineering from what I’ve heard, but if you choose to not do engineering anymore, UVA would be the better option. It has better programs outside of engineering.”

Completely inaccurate information.

Go for fit… You’ve got two good choices. Where do you want to spend four or more years?
