@APlennox Congrats! That’s great to hear. Good luck!
Would anyone hazard a guess about the percentage of EA applicants deferred? I keep reading that they only take the tippy top, but curious about percentages. I ask because as an OOS parent, I am really curious about (i.e. dreading) the FA package and that info would be deferred along with possible offer, right?
I thought that Michigan does not even start considering FA packages until AFTER the student is admitted. So for the lucky EA admits, they will then have to wait to see FA packages, but presumably, would receive the information well before those RD applicants who have to wait till late March to learn about acceptance/rejection. But…I’ve read here on CC that many students who get deferred from the EA will then get accepted well before RD applicants learn their fate. But I’ve no personal experience on this issue.
Michigan doesn’t consider financial aid until you’re admitted, but they still give you your package on time.
@binky17 The average acceptance rate is about 29%. The EA acceptance rate is rumored to be around 40%. Financial aid packages aren’t released until after RD admissions are released.
Okay, thank you, @profdad2021 and @guitar321 This is all a bit tricky, then, isn’t it, even with the NPC. Even if my kid is lucky enough to get in, we can’t really know for sure if it’s feasible. An acceptance without the FA package makes the decision about whether to go ED2 at a school with 100 percent need met harder. I guess I am learning what everyone else has known all along.
Thank you, @APlennox and glad you got your interview. Good luck!
@binky17 Totally agreed. Michigan meets about 90% of OOS need.
If the in-state admissions rate is between 42-50% and the EA acceptance rate is (rumored to be) 40%, how high is the EA in-state acceptance rate? It seems like it’d be pretty high.
My son and I went to Tech Day sponsored by the CoE. They told us that FA awards for EA acceptances go out after Jan. 1.
Would anyone happen to know the acceptance rate for CoE? I would assume it’s lower than the average, but I’m wondering by how much.
@UofMorMSU is there really a difference in In-sate and Out-of-state rates?
Here are stats for CoE Fall 2016 admissions.
Total First Year Student Applications 14,666
% Offered Admission 24%
Median HS GPA for Admitted First Year Students 3.9
Median ACT for Admitted First Year Students 33
Median SAT for Admitted First Year Students 1440 (old SAT)
and @UofMorMSU the in-state acc. rate is 40% but the EA acceptance rate is not 40%. It is not released.
Just to be clear here so everyone can see:
The Early Action acceptance rate is NOT 40%.
@guitar321 - Median SAT for Admitted First Year Students 1440 (old SAT). This doesn’t sound right. This must be the new SAT.
@guitar321 The in-state rate was between 50% and 42% last year. And my comment (40% EA acceptance rate) was speculative. I’m aware that EA doesn’t give you a better chance, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the EA acceptance rate was higher.
@UofMorMSU I hate to ask again, but is there a clear disparity in In-State and Out-Of-State acceptance rates, or not?
@nikhil99 Yes. There is.
If you want to see for yourself, Google “University of Michigan Almanac” and look at the first search result. The in-state acceptance rate is higher than OOS by a bit.
@UofMorMSU Thanks sm!
I was confused because speaking over the phone with the office of admissions, I found out that they don’t look at residency status when considering applications.
