UMichigan Ann Arbor EA Class of 2021 Applicants

Concerns, confusions, general discussion

I applied 12 days ago but still haven’t received any kind of email from U of M

You can apply this early? Who read your essays?

People can apply as early as the common app starts, which is August 1st.

Anybody applying to Ross?

@pdizzla You won’t recieve any kind of email from them (not even a confirmation) unless you are missing documents. Otherwise, don’t expect to hear anything (aka your decision) until the Friday before Christmas Eve (or maybe the 16th if you guys are SUPER lucky). The calendar year is kind of wonky for their expected schedule this year. Even if you were to submit your completed application at 12:01 on August 1st for EA, you won’t hear until December.

I really doubt they will wait til the 23rd to issue decisions. The 16 th is the most likely date. Maybe the 19th.

Yeah it’s different this year. For the few years that I’ve been paying attention to the release day, it’s always been the Friday before Christmas eve, but there’s usually been at least 3 or 4 business days between that day and Christmas eve. But my theory is that no one in that admissions office wants to be stuck there until December 24th and they get decisions out by that Friday the 16th, or maybe in this case, Monday the 19th.

Check your spam or promotions email that’s where all the confirmation emails went for me last year. I know its weird that other school spam gets through but just type into your search bar “michigan.” You should get some kind of confirmation email.

me

@agriffith You should receive a confirmation e-mail and tell you to set up an account to check the portal (Wolverine Access). However, it only happens after they have downloaded the application which may not occur until mid to late September. It is not that they receive your application immediately after your submission to CA. They download files in batches.
The admission (or deferral) notice will come (mostly) the Friday before Christmas Eve but not all on the same day.

When does application submission begin?

@guitar321 for EA, between now and Nov 1.

How long does it take to get a confirmation email after app is submitted? S applied on 9/6 and I can see they downloaded the app, so hopefully they will send an email soon.

I wanted to provide an observation that I hope is helpful and prevents frustration. My D is as sophomore at Michigan so I have been watching this Board for a few years. Even if you are fully qualified and utimalty get accepted, it will be a 9 month wait for many of you. Michigan is extremely competitive as you know. Qualified people will be deferred to regular admission and they won’t necessarily hear until the end of that process (End of April/ early May). I hope that this insight into the process helps manage expectations and reduces frustration. I know it’s hard to hear that some of you will hear in May. Good luck and Go blue!

I agree, and I also think that this year’s pool will probably be the most competitive yet (as, with every new year, there is a more competitive pool). Good luck!

The long wait has become typical since a couple years ago as they have decreased the number of early admission.

Does Michigan let you submit a resume other than the activity list on the common app? there’s barely any space on the common app list for descriptions
