@AnArcticMonkey call the school. Don’t stress or worry, just call the school. They can go to your file, look up your information specifically and determine what is going on and give you an answer. If it helps, two weeks ago, well after the November 1 deadline my recommendations and transcripts showed that UMich received late. They didn’t it’s just when they recorded it and posted on my file. Once they had a chance to review MY specific application they were able to match up MY specific information and I was all set. All of my information arrived well before the deadline and I sent my Common app in on October 31. So please don’t stress and I wouldn’t listen to anyone except UMICH.
So call and keep us posted. In the meantime I will keep my fingers crossed.

@jooshyjosh Hello! I am an applicant to the engineering school, but after taking CS this year I am strongly considering a minor in it or possibly a change in my major. How do you like the CS program at UMich?
A little over two weeks to find out if one gets accepted to U of M I’m probably getting a deferral, but hoping for an acceptance!
@enginero Hey! So before anything, theres many people doing CS here–thats expected. In all honesty I wouldnt consider minoring in CS unless you were to major in something drastically different. The reason why many say that a CS minor isnt worth it here is because of a class known as eecs281. eecs281 is the biggest weed-out class and many consider it to be the peak of the work-load in CS (many job interviewers even actually ask around for who took eecs 281-- by the time you finish this class you can get a job rather easily). the classes prior to eecs 281 would be eecs 280 eecs 203 and eecs183 or eng101 (im assuming you took CS in highschool-- so eecs 183 and eng101 shouldnt be difficult although c++ is slightly different from java).
All in all, CS is a great major, but im not here to tell you that (if you wanna know why, our average starting salary here for CS bachelor graduates is $96,000). And lol dont worry if you finish all 4 years with a 3.5 gpa. THATS ACTUALLY NOT BAD AT ALL.
Nevertheless, the CS minor already takes some of the hardest CS classes-- might as well major in CS. Once you finish eecs 281 (which is required for a minor) you’re basically 75% done with the major. If you were to minor is cs and major in something like biomedical engineering, you would probably die LOLL
however, I do know some people in Ross that minor in CS. Not saying its a bad idea, but it is a ton of work.
@enginero sorry I almost forgot to answer your last question. I actually really like the CS program here. People are always willing to help and because theres so many others in CS it kind of seems like a big CS family. I made some upperclassmen friends that help me through CS stuff and professors are pretty good as well. It wont be easy though. And it wont always be fun, but I think I’m gonna be ready for it.
Just had my HAIL interview the other day and I’m more excited than ever to hear my decision! Can’t wait to hopefully be a Wolverine!!! Also, I keep seeing on this thread that very little OOS applicants are accepted during EA, does anyone know to how much of an extent this is true? From looking at my schools Naviance it looks like traditionally we’ve had good results for EA, even with kids who aren’t at the “top” of the class. Thanks!
@Seacoast got an email saying I won’t be considered for e.a in any case. So i guess it’s more of disappointment than stress. Thanks a ton for the encouragement:)
@AnArcticMonkey damnn… sorry dude. Dw though from what I see in your other threads you have more than a good chance during RD. Hang in there!
You’re an International applicant!? What country?
@AnArcticMonkey…listen if you have the grades EA or RD you’ll get in…so don’t be disappointed. It was meant to be for a reason. Where else did you apply? Is UMich your 1st choice?
@Percent99 I know plenty of people OOS accepted early action. I’m from IL
@Seacoast that’s a good point. I applied ED to Dartmouth and EA to Umichigan; if I got into umich, I wouldn’t need to apply to my safeties in Jan. But you’re right! Everything happens for a reason.
what @Percent99 said is not completely false, its just an exaggeration. My HS is in Michigan and we are UofM’s premier feeder school (we send about 80 a year). I have learned the following from talking with my counselor- someone who has directly dealt with UofM admissions for 2 decades. UofM sets a limit to how many people they accept EA and at the same time, in state students get primary readership. So they make decisions for all the in state students first and then get to the out of state students. If UofM hits their EA acceptance limit before finishing all the OOS apps, they do indeed defer the rest of the OOS apps. OOS EA acceptance is not 0, but its definitely not the same as RD acceptance either.
If what heporti32 is saying is accurate, then I would be enticed to see the final results for in-state and out-of-state. I think we should have a good enough sample size among all the applicants that would post the result to get a general idea of what UMich adcoms were thinking this cycle. Also, I find it hard to believe that all the out-of-state applicants are deferred. I would guess that they decline the people they would deny in RD now. That way, both the college and the student know where their options truly are. Hopefully I am not adding stress to my fellow OOS applicants!
@UofMichigan1999 I don’t think it’s possible to add more stress
Anyone else feel like going to sleep and just waking up when decisions come in so we don’t have to be anxious for two more weeks?? ;p
where did you all ed (if you decided to)?
@allima Northwestern, and you?
@allima would have to Michigan but they don’t have it
