UMichigan Ann Arbor EA Class of 2021 Applicants

@APlennox Thank you for heads up. All of these questions were asked by the interviewer. Less than two weeks to the big day:) Good luck to all!

Just had my interview too. They also asked me what I valued most in a school.

@educationfan No problem

@Clareesi I had forgotten that one but it was already too late to edit my post lol.

For anyone who hasn’t had their interview yet, he also asked “If I gave you $1000, what would you do with it?”

Had my HAIL interview a few minutes ago. The guy wanted it to be casual so he didn’t ask any of the questions, we instead had a conversation and he said he was really glad to have met me etc and hoped I got in. It really depends on the interviewer for your type of interview.

My interview was much more like ScaredofSchool’s. He said I was his first interview and he mostly had me ask him questions about Michigan. It was pretty casual and my interviewer was very nice.

For mine she had a printed sheet with all the questions on it and she had to take notes about what I said.

Hello!! New here. I applied for Harvard SCEA and Michigan EA. Just had my interview this morning and it went well. Does UMich value interview a lot?

@APlennox hi there! How did you find out that Dec. 16th is the date?

@Yawninglion My interviewer described it as another subjective piece to your application. It’s optional so not doing it won’y hurt you, but if you do do it and it goes well, it’s like an additional recommendation or essay.

I’m not 100% sure, but my best guess (95%) is that it is going to be on December 16th. December 16th is probably the date because for the past couple years, they have been releasing the first wave of admissions on the Friday before the EA decision deadline so the admissions workers get to go home for the weekend and not have to deal with phone calls and emails from applicants/parents. This year the deadline is on the 24th. The Friday before it is the 23rd, but that wouldn’t give them enough time to release all the decisions or fix any mistakes.

Ok! Thanks a lot for the info! @APlennox

Decisions will probably be coming out on the 23rd around 3 o’clock. It’s typically the Friday before Christmas. The reason they do it then is because the school closes that day for break, so the admissions office doesn’t have to deal with all the emails and phone calls.

@APlennox Thank you!!

I really hope it’s not the 23rd. I’m sympathetic to the AOs, but that’s such a long wait. :frowning:

@jd2017 If you check previous early action threads such as last years, you would see that you’re wrong. Decisions came out on the 18th last year.

@as1799 The 18th was the Friday before Christmas last year. The previous year they came out on the 19th, also the Friday before Christmas. They could change the trend this year since the 23rd is so late, but it is the Friday before Christmas which is when they have been releasing decisions for years.

I was counting on it being the 16th but @jd2017 makes a valid point. Respectfully, i hope you’re wrong ;p

Class of 2016 (the last time when christmas was on a sunday) got their decisions on friday, the 16th so that’s likely to happen this year too

Do you guys think its worth it to send an applicant update at this point? and has anyone done this/know how to do that?

@insula how big of an update is it?
Chances are, most decisions have been made at this point as results will be out in 12 days. And at this point admissions officers probably aren’t going through emails and matching updates to applications to make a new decision.

However, if it is an important update, and in the event that you get differed, it would be worth it.

Is it true they release the acceptances and deferrals/rejections on different days?
