@nomusicnolifex, that is what the CC community thinks. That guess is based on the previous couple years’ trend and also the fact that all applications in EA will be completed by the 24th. This basically means that it is safe to assume that the decisions will start to roll out a weak prior.
@brooklynilene My son got rejected from Cornell for applying to CS in COE
He has 36 in ACT, 800 in Math II, 760 in Physics, 3.86 GPA UW. Strong community services, 400+ hours in last four years.
Depending on schools, they not just look at your scores, they try to have a feel if there is a fit. This was what I learned from the Cornell board.
So best of luck to your daughter! (and to my son too )
@sunny_01 that is rough, considering his accomplishments. Cornell will regret it as he continues to shine. So you think fit really does matter, then? Is he a good fit for Michigan? I love Michigan’s spirit. Good luck to him.
@binky17 Thank you. I don’t know. But I know the competition in those good schools are high. I hope he is a good for Michigan. Good luck to you too.
Does Michigan typically release an email containing the decision date?
Hi all! What day and time do the results for EA come out?
Hopefully Dec 16 around 4 pm. I wish Umich still gave in state residents the same priority it did ten years ago when in state residence was an important factor but now is only a considered factor according to the common data set posted on their website. Umich used to do rolling and release decisions starting september until the number of out of state applicants increased a ton in 2010. No other public university has 80% out of state applicants and only 20% in state applicants. In state acceptance rates dropped from 70% to 42% even though the number of in state applicants has always stayed the same.
Last year Umich released EA decisions on the 19th of December. However, I think they release it on the Friday before the 24th.
Hey, all. To preempt results in about a week, what are my chances?

Applied to Engineering: Biomedical
GPA: 3.77 UW / 4.31 W (Rigorous curriculum all four years, always took all honors everything, general upward trend over all years. I struggled a bit with freshman year…)
ACT: C 33/ E 36 / M 30 / R 33 / S 34
SAT II: Math 2 740 / Bio M 700
ECs: Orchestra (First Viola for three years, District Honor orch for one, have taught violin tutoring for two), iGEM (Research project based around CRISPR gene editing conducted over the summer and fall of this year, also founded school’s bioclub), Scholar’s Bowl (Varsity member for two years, currently 6-0 for tournaments and events and won our last tournament undefeated all eight rounds), I also write books and am self-published, am an Eagle Scout, and play JV tennis.
National Merit Commended/ AP Scholar with Honors (Here’s to tier 2 in everything lol)
Other honors include some state wins for orchestra and some regional wins for scholar’s bowl.
I’ve been told that my essays are pretty good; although the Stanford rejection today really shook my essay self-confidence, I’m still gonna say that they’re 8.75/10.
Had my HAIL interview two weeks ago and I thought it went very well, the guy seemed to like me. We wrapped up in like 35 minutes, that seems short compared to my other interviews but I felt great about it at the time.
Anyway, yeah. Thanks for reading that haha.
You definitely have a chance, but your GPA is a bit low. Did you recalculate it using 4 for all A+, A, and A- and 3 for all B’s and so on? For example, all A- would be a 3.66 at my school but considered a 4.0 for umich. Sorry about Stanford, they reject instead of defer a lot of people early action.
Can someone please chance me? The week has kind of sucked so far. Thanks in advance

Applied to LSA for Econ (intention of transferring into Ross later)
ACT: 32 (35E, 33M, 31R, 30S)
GPA: 3.95
SAT I & II: didn’t submit
ECs: Debate Team (captain last two years, VC sophomore), Interact (board member 3 yrs), tennis (varsity), NHS, volunteer at library, work at Kumon
I don’t really know how well my essays were so I’m gonna say average at 6/10. My recommendations should be fairly strong at 8/10
If it helps, I am on the school’s debate team recruiting list after contacting their coach. He said it may help me if my decision could go either way.
@sunny_01 sorry to hear that. Cornell emphasizes fit more than any other school in the nation (in my opinion). Frankly, they could care less about test scores if you don’t show why you would be a good fit. I don’t claim to know whether or not he was a good fit, but I do know this: Based on your post, your son looks like a great candidate and I wish him the best of luck in his application process!
Guys, this is a discussion thread. Not a chance thread…
@lolonimous I agree with your prediction. Since UM dropped rolling admissions and adopted EA about 3 years ago, the decisions have been released right before the school’s winter break. Understandably, Admissions does not want to be besieged with calls from students, parents and GC inquiring about their notifications/outcomes, so EA decisions seem to be posted right before the school closes for vacation. The last day of finals is 12/22, so I agree decisions will likely come out that Friday.
Hey guys, I’m a current freshman at UM. I can also answer any questions that you want. Ask away!
@DryMango Thank you!
@whizkid98 so why for UM and what did you find there now that you have been there a semester you wish you knew? Is it as awesome as I think it will be?
:-?
@sunny_01 Going through this process, I’ve learned it’s a completely different ballgame than it was when I applied in Fall '79 (when U Chicago with a 40% acceptance rate was my safety!). All I can say is my son was heartbroken not to get into Cornell on ED - but now as a sophomore at Michigan he couldn’t be happier and wouldn’t want to be anyplace other than Ann Arbor. As far as academics, Michigan engineering is second to none - it’ll kick the butts of the smartest kids - and I must say, as someone who went to Harvard, I think I would have been much happier at a place like Michigan (though yes I’ve reaped the resume benefits). Also, the Michigan alumni network is fierce - there’s none bigger or more loyal.
I think your son has an excellent shot. If it’s his true top choice after Cornell, it couldn’t hurt to write a note to the admissions officer assigned to your region saying something to the effect that if accepted he’ll go. Your son’s stats are so good, you don’t want Michigan to think it’s your son’s safety if in fact it’s not.
@brooklynilene and @sunny01 My D was just admitted to cornell, arguably with worst stats (4.0unw, 33 act) than sunny01’s son so I do think cornell is very sensitive to fit. She’ll be withdrawing her ea app from UM today.
My son is a senior at UM and has had a great experience. U mich is such a big, diverse school, strong in so many areas, that I believe fit receives less emphasis than cornell. Still, the “why u mich” essay should be well-researched and emphasize fit. My D’s cornell and UM essay named specific professors, labs and classes, tying them back to her interests and experience.
best of luck!
Hey guys, I was wondering how important the UMich Hail Interviews are towards the admission process?
