@JPGator98 based on past years, many are predicting decisions start coming out next week Friday!! (Dec 16). UMich hasn’t said officially though, so just a conjecture. They could come out tomorrow, but most likely not
I agree there is always a chance but I am not counting on it. Just read through the Cornell rejections and deferrals, gotta say they are all taking it very well. Lots of rejections and deferred. Nice to see others stressed out like us only their # 1 was Cornell but they now realize something is out there for them and it will be awesome!
I have a friend who just got in so I’m happy for her.
Hang in there everyone! Our time will come soon enough… :-?
@Seacoast Just got a deferral from Cornell, but I am looking forward to the future! Thank you for your kind words.
@lourveamerican…not the end of the road. Re-evaluate when you have more information! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, the fact that you could apply to Cornell is amazing. Kinda like being nominated for a Golden Globe or Oscar. Gotta look at the road that took you to this point. Your an amazing student…duh…otherwise you wouldn’t be applying here.
@Seacoast oh my gosh you just made my day
How are my chances?
OOS
3rd generation legacy (my mother and her father both went)
GPA: 3.65/4 at a very competitive school
ACT: 34
APs: 4 (Econ, Stat, BC Calc, Psych)
ECs: 4 clubs, part-time worker in summer
I think I have 8.5/10 essays that are very personal and unique.
I saw my recs and they made me super impressed.
Let me know, thanks in advance.
@UofMWolverine2020 Thanks for willing help out! My S applies CS, hope he will be lucky. What major(s) are you pursuing?
How much does OOS sibling “legacy” help at Michigan? My daughter applied EA (to LSA) and her brother is currentlly a sophomore at COE. She loves Michigan and it showed in her supplements. Go Blue!
@brooklynilene I’m sure it’ll give a small boost, about as much as a parent legacy connection. Be aware that, like all legacy connections (except for a 999th gen 8 sibling legacy) won’t be a deciding factor in admissions. If your daughter has below average credentials (<3.5, <1350 SAT), it won’t make up for it.
EDIT: better answer
One week from today…maybe??? Oh the excitement is awesome! =))
Thanks so much @as1799 She’s in the top 2-3% of her huge public school (5,700 students), 98 average, 1410 SAT, 760 Math II SAT Subject Test, 720 US History SAT Subject Test, 5s in APUSH, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP English Capstone and a 4 in AP Euro. Currently in AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Gov. Captain of the Cheer Team - she won the Coach’s Award; Captain of the Stunt Team which won the 2016 NYC Championship among all public high schools, volunteered every Sunday since January on the Hillary campaign, Assistant Teacher at Hebrew School, sleepaway camp counselor. Hope the brother thing pushes her over the top!
@brooklynilene Very impressive stats. I think she should get in. What major did she apply? Good luck!
@brooklynilene Pretty impressive, but SAT score & Math II Subject Test scores are a bit low. I wish her the best of luck!
I’m also a UMich EA applicant who’s been lurking on the thread for a while. Just received rejection from Penn (it was definitely a reach), but I hope for better news from my remaining schools.
Thanks @sunny_01. My daughter wants to study political science and economics; perhaps take courses at the Ford School of Public Policy as an upperclassman.
@nomusicnolifex - Yes, my daughter is aware that it’s not the best SAT but we hope it’s good enough. As for Math II, I figure since she is not applying to COE, it should be good enough for her major, plus she will complete AP Calc BC and AP Stats this year. As for ED, my daughter just got deferred from Cornell yesterday, so is really counting on the blue and maize.
Thank you both for your input and good wishes. 7 more days . . .
@brooklynilene I feel the pressure! I’m actually going into business as well
Could somebody tell me what they think of my chances?

ECs include advanced choir, math tutoring club, interact club, students human rights commission, NHS, Tri-M, Math honor scoeity, History honor society. Thanks
What are my chances?

I say you have a very solid chance of getting accepted! A 1540 is more than enough, along with a 4.34 weighted GPA. Try to calculate your unweighted gpa with their scale. e.g A+, A, A- = 4.0. B+, B, B- = 3.0. This is what they’ll consider for their application. They tend to look at you overall, so if you’re also in a lot of extracurriculars and leadership activities, its a big +1. Best of Luck! Roughly 1 more week until we get our decision!!
@jonshomali Ooooh thanks! My unweighted GPA is 3.92. Will the decision officially be released next Friday?
These decisions could not come soon enough. So near but yet so far. Ughhh
