As an exceptional high school senior, you can guarantee a place in the three-year Ross BBA Program through our Preferred Admission process. By meeting a few requirements during your freshman year at Michigan (see below), you get a head start by learning about Ross and taking a course in the BBA core curriculum.
We review your Preferred Admission application only after the U-M Office of Undergraduate Admissions admits you. We conduct our own, independent application review.
Your Preferred Admission application will show in the “Admission Application Status” page on Wolverine Access. Here you will see the application term (the post-dated sophomore year term), academic career, academic program, application number, and application date. Please know that the application number and date is no indication of admission to the university or the Ross School of Business. All students who apply to the University of Michigan and choose Preferred Admission for the Ross School of Business will have a business application for their post-dated sophomore term. Please utilize our Prospective Student Guide to Check Your Application Status.

@Dino2486 Well the way Ross is operating now is that if you apply for preferred admission and get denied, you will NOT be allowed to apply for Ross again as a freshman in LSA (which is traditionally how most people transferred into Ross).
If you don’t apply for preferred admission into Ross, you are allowed to apply to Ross as a freshman in LSA.
That 1440 I’m guessing is average old SAT as there is a big difference between a 33 ACT average and a 1440 new SAT, so that’s about an average 1480 new SAT average if I’m right as a 1480 new SAT is still only equivalent to a 32 ACT.
I have a few questions for Ross preferred admission…
First of all, most of CC is intent on doing LSA with Ross. Why is that? I plan on applying for engineering with Ross, is that a problem? And I’ve seen that if you get rejected from preferred admission, you cant apply again as a freshman? This seems harsh.
For the portfolio, by the problem in your community, does it be literally within where you leave, or can it be more abstract, such as a community of students, etc. I’ve only recently decided to apply to Ross, and my only idea so far is writing about esports/sports and revenue sharing, but I feel like that sounds childish.
For the artifact, the instructions on what constitutes an artifact are pretty unclear. My ideas so far was to create a collage of pictures from my eagle project and talk about the learning experience I had going through the entire process. Does this sound like a good idea?
Also, just wondering based on pure data, what are my chances considering I have 3.9/4.0 GPA, 35 ACT, tons of EC’s, eagle scout, debate, deca, python club, internship and research project, OOS
If you apply to engineering and are then accepted to Ross, would you then drop engineering after freshman year to attend Ross? Or would you try for a dual degree (two bachelor’s degrees – one in engineering, one in business)? It would likely take an extra year of schooling to complete a dual degree.
If you are accepted to engineering but rejected from Ross, you can attend UMich engineering for all four years and go on to get an MBA later if so desired.
I believe a lot of people applied to do LSA with Ross due to a decreased risk. In order to be considered for Ross you need to get into one of the other undergraduate schools and LSA is easier to get into than Engineering. Therefore, applying to LSA gives you more freedom to talk about Ross in your application essays and such. There is no problem with doing it with Engineering, I know plenty of people that are doing that. That being said, I also know a lot of people that tried doing that and didn’t even get into Engineering so they weren’t even considered for Ross.
@cgsarat71 Because with the way it used to be run, students denied preferred admission could apply again as a freshman in LSA. Unfortunately, only about 1/3rd of those students would get in. A LOT of freshmen came in with this grand dream of Ross, and for a lot of them, they felt like they “wasted their time” here at UMich when they’re denied cause they could’ve gone to business school at Indiana (Kelley) or wherever. This system is more direct and prevents this problem where students are forced to either transfer out of UMich or to suck it up and get a liberal arts degree from LSA after getting denied from Ross.
If you are more interested in engineering, you may consider a Ross business minor.
If you are more interested in consulting, you may want to take a look at the Engineering Global Leadership Honors Program.
@Dino2486 In my opinion, I prefer this method over the old one. Also, it isn’t that they are accepting 500 PAs, that is just how many the preferred admissions class size is expected to take up. When I attended a Ross information session they said that they will most likely accept closer to 1200-1500 applicants. (Don’t quote me on that, but you get the point). It is substantially easier to get pre-admit than it was last year. Last year, they said that they got about 10000 pre-admit applications. Of that, they admitted about 3000 to UofM. Then of that, they admitted a little over 500 to Ross Pre-Admission as stated above.
This year, I think it is safe to assume the acceptance rate will be in between 1500/3000 and 1200/3725. Again, I do not know exactly and no one really does, but that is just an educated guess based on research and attending an info session. Hopefully I helped, for anyone that was confused. Feel free to message me or address a mistake I may have made.
If you are intent on doing ross PA I HIGHLY suggest LSA even if you are considering doing engineering dual major. 1. If you do engineering and change your mind and only do ross then many of your credits are wasted 2. If you do LSA you are fulfilling distribution requirements for both ross and Engineering, meaning you can apply to the engineering school freshman year and not be behind, it will be slightly more difficult because you won’t be able to spread out your distribution courses, but that’s called hedging your bets.
I have personal experience with this situation. Also don’t do the double major, seriously there is no upside. Just do the comp sci minor (youd learn everything you’d need in the minor). And if you were not thinking comp sci then what you are thinking is stupid… no offense lol
