Ross School of Business at Michigan new admission policy.

On the Ross website I read “The last year of Regular Admission will be for Fall 2017. The main pathway to enter the BBA program in Fall 2018 will be Preferred Admission, and Regular Admission will no longer exist”. I emailed Ross undergraduate admission and they told me this, “In order to obtain admission to the Ross BBA program, high school seniors must apply through the Common Application to the University of Michigan and indicate their interest in Preferred Admission to the Ross BBA program. While Preferred Admission has been offered in the past, this is the first year we will be filling the BBA class through the Preferred Admission process and enrolling a total of 500 students.” I’m still confused on the wording of the original statement on the website.

Are you confused about the year? Or regular admission vs preferred admission?

In order to understand it, you have to realize that the BBA program is a 3-year program. So, this upcoming year (2017) will be the last year in which existing U-M freshmen can apply to Ross. After that, every upcoming class will be made up of students that got in as High School Seniors, not U-M freshmen. So if you are a high school senior right now and you get into Preferred Admissions, then you will join the BBA program in 2018.

I hope that helps.

Are you sure? In the email to admissions I specifically asked “As a current high school senior, is my only option to get into the Ross through preferred admission?” And if I did have the option of regular admission in 2017, it sounds like they’re going to be filling 80% of the BBA class through preferred admission, so chances of getting in through transfer or regular will go down

I believe you are correct. Most but not all of the classes will be filled through PA. Thus, you’ll still be able to apply after your freshman year but likely the difficulty of admission will be greater than prior.

Yeah. That is correct. I attended a Ross info session and they did say that 80% will come from Pre Admits and 20% will come from other admissions. I believe this will include transfers from other schools as well (Don’t take my word for that part).

From the website:

For current freshmen at UMich:

For current seniors in HS:

So yes, as a senior I have to apply through preferred admission.

^^^Correct. If you get into LSA but do not get admitted to Ross, you will have little to no chance of getting into Ross if you apply again during your freshman year, according to the above.
