Are we supposed to have gotten ANY indication that we're into their undergrad even if we haven't gotten an interview call yet? has any OOS person got an interview time?

um yah you should have gotten the undergrad stuff already. Im from OOS obviously. no idea about interview time- on the letter it says it can go from feb to end of march.

Boo21, what do you mean by "communication palying a very minor role for interviews?"

You're worried about your ACT score. What about your extracurricular, leadership, clinical experience, your rank/GPA? If these are good, you're in the the ACT range they ask for, so don't worry too much. The look at all the aspects of an applicant.

If/when you get an interview, talk to Ms. Morgenegg about how you can be considered instate so you won't have to pay out of state tuition (you'll have to prove that your parents pay taxes in MO or something)

md4me, call umkc admissions 816 235 1111 and ask if you've been accepted yet.

by communication, I mean, does Ms. Morgenegg take in account if you called her, e-mailed her, etc., in making decision. To show interest.

On the other thread, I read somewhere that for interviews ACT is the biggest component. Its good to hear that they look at everything else as too. Thanks for answering our questions CookieFairy!

i guess there's no way to know for sure whether communicating with Ms. Morgenegg is taken into account, but I think it does. It keeps you in her mind, and lets her know that you are serious about this program.

i didn't take any pictures really. the medical school is like under construction so it was pretty ugly outside and in the lobby. it was really distracting when i was taking the test because they were using all sorts of power tools. oh well.
about undergrad admission. I was talking to the guy from the undergrad school and he said that if the medical school received ur application then you are accepted into the undergrad school. if u don't get into the medical school u just need to call the office and tell them u want to go to undergrad school there and they will move ur file. so don't worry if u never got anything saying congrats! ur accepted! because i never did.

ya there's a lot of construction going on-- they're revamping the lobby, library, and i don't know what else. Plus the nursing building is being built right in front.

if you want to see current pictures of the school or know what's been going on there, you can browse thru the latest news/publications

they even have the school's history in photos here (http://acaserve.med.umkc.edu/millington/about/sections/history/Slides.htm), but the latest photos are from 2004.

yeah, I was looking at the chemistry exam practice questions from that website and that looks several levels lower than the ap chemistry examination in terms of easiness

i haven't gotten anythin from them at all...and i can't get a hold of Mrs. Morgenegg either...i'm so lost

I was sifting through the old UMKC thread and was just wondering if anyone knows the "average" statistics for the OOS people that got in last year. If someone knows, it would definitely save me, and others, a lot of time.

For the ACT, the average is a 30. That's the only stat I asked Mrs. Morgenegg.

Did any OOS students get any interview calls yet?

I was in the same position as you, joeytom76. So I called UMKC last Friday and found out that I had been admitted to the general school. So I then asked to speak to the Med. School Admissions and spoke to Ms. Morgenegg. She said that they are behind schedule this year, those who applied towards the end of the deadline had not been entered into the computer yet. But she kindly looked at my stats (ACT= 30; Rank=10/535) and said I would definitely be invited for an interview. So I then scheduled an interview (Feb. 12). You should definitely keep calling Med. School Admissions everyday before 4:30 PM CST (thats when Ms. Morgenegg leaves for the day). Good lock and keep trying!

^was this the first time you had called her?
lol I'm kind of afraid to call her again. I have called her only once before. Did you just ask her to check your status?

sup kids...i'm currently a year 1 at UMKC. came back to this site after a long time....if you guys have any questions feel free to ask about anything.

good luck

has anyone out of state gotten an interview yet?

MadFr0g: Hi! I actually had a few questions:

How do you like the program? Fun or stressful etc?

Around how many kids do you go to classes with? Are lectures different from the hospital rounds you do?

Do profs. or TA's do most of the the real teaching?

How's the food? =)

How's dorm life? Noisy, parties all the time etc? or really quiet?

Do you know what the avg. GPA of kids who made it into the program was? or what the requirements are so that you can go on to the med school? Are there any basic requirements, can you get dropped if u don't meet them?

Just a few questions i had, for Mad Fr0g or anyone else too... thanks!

A girl from my school went to UMKC last weekend for an interview. And this is California...so I just assumed I didn't get an interview.

o crap....

satkid11:

It's both. umkc pretty much has no social life, but it is what you make of it. i would say i'm a big partier, so i find something to do every week (at least most weekends) if nothing else, you can go to KU to party. otherwise you can just hang out in the dorms, watch a movie, or go to sleep lol. it is pretty stressful, but the first 2 semesters are your easiest. so enjoy while you can, bc starting yr2, you seriously have no life.

lectures are in halls with about 500 kids in them or so. you go to all your classes with every yr 1 med student (except your electives) hospital rounds are only teams of about 10 students. you stay with the same team for 2 yrs, then switch teams for yrs 3-6.

in lectures, it's the professors. in the labs, it's the TA's. personally, i knew more than my TA in my labs, so just watch out for that. professors are there to help, but they don't teach.

the cafe was changed from last year, but it's still not amazing. you'll love it the first few months, then it gets monotonous and boring. there's only the cafe and einsteins, and both close at 7, which blows big time. hopefully they change it next yr for you guys.

i assure you no parties....umkc is a dry campus, so no one is going to blatantly have parties. this year, almost half of the med students got written for alcohol in the dorms, so no more dorm parties for us. most of the times its quiet, but that's a bad thing sometimes....

you can get dropped if you don't maintain a 3.0 GPA or don't pass some of your med classes.

hope that helped. feel free to ask anymore questions.
