Umm chances?

i really like Fordham. Im going to be a senior this fall and my first choice is going to be Fordham.

Freshman and sophomore years, i had a combined 3.0 GPA (Academic) and a 3.3 (cumulative)

I increased my gpa junior year greatly.
Junior year:
1st Qtr: 3.714
2nd Qtr: 3.57
3rd Qtr: 3.81
4th Qtr: 3.76

I am only taking ACT's.
April:27
June: 28

Should i take it again?

My Ec's are pretty good...nothing too intense but yea

Thirty Hour Famine - WorldVision
Special Olympics
Community Service w/ soccer programs
Camp Counselor

Idk what else that'll help me out.

Im 100% Japanese...im not one of those smart brainiacs, but im hoping that grade increase from freshmen year and sophomore year to junior year would help me out...

And my school is so god damn competitive.

I'm well rounded...ill also try if i can play soccer there...but grades wise how do i look???

Thanks

Hmmm.....well, being Japanese will help, I think. If your overall average is now 3.5 or better that really helps. I think your ACT scores are in the middle of the pack so that shouldnt be too problematic. Playing soccer? If you mean for their NCAA Div. I team, I dont know how they do recruiting for that, but you might want to inquire and see if they take walk ons. They do have HIGHLY competitive club soccer as well.....good stuff.

Just speculating....you look good to me. But I dont work for them and admissions anywhere can be quirky. Apply early admission for sure, that will also help.

Its a great school.

Where are you from? Sometimes geography can help.

thanks for the advice.

Im from CT.... a rich white school...

and by early admission, i was thinking maybe early action...will that be better than regular decision? as in will i have a better chance of getting in?

You are welcome. I think that generally, Early Action or Early Decision at most schools is statistically better for admissions. Of course there are exceptions. But I think in Fordham's case it is, particularly with the high number of applications they are getting: 23,000 last year alone. The added benefit is that if they defer you, you know by Christmas and can then focus on the other schools on your list. But I dont think that will happen. If you are in Connecticut, they KNOW your school already and its rigor. Just make sure you do well SENIOR year. NO SENIOR SLACK. That is the kiss of death.

So in short, I think you will be fine. Do a SUPERB job on your essay, get OUTSTANDING recommendations and work hard, stay out of trouble. Apply non binding Early Admissions by November 1.

Its a great school. Lots and lots of fun, but you work hard too. My D is there now and loves it.

Good luck.

My senior year classes dont seem to rigorous when compared to others. I am trying to get an AP calculus class, but thats the only high level class i will be taking. Will that be a problem? This is actually going to be my only AP class i have taken in all my four years in high school...

The essay has been a problem for me...i really have no clue on what to write about. Its supposed to show who i really am and more about me right?

Recommendations...i think they are really good. I have my English teacher, guidance counselor, and my high school soccer coach (who is a book writer)

By the way, how well did your D do in school?

My D did very well in high school. She had a LOT of AP's, but her school offers a lot of them. She is very gifted and hard working. I dont know how Fordham views your curriculum and such. But its all in context to what is offered and what you took.

I think you should get some advice from your counselors and teachers and family on what to write for your essay. Spend a lot of time on it. Make sure its your own work. Do your best.

On recommendations, its people who KNOW you and can elaborate on your strengths. Make sure they give an outstanding recommendation and not a tepid one. Ask them if they can write one and write one that will help you get admitted. Most are very honest about that. Either, "I am sorry but I dont think I can be of much help to you." or "I would be happy to do so.....tell me about this school you want to attend!"

I think you should be fine. Work hard in Senior year. College applications are SERIOUS business, so make sure you get an early start and spend the requisite amount of time and effort on them.
Good luck.
