Does anyone know if UMN has a "4+1" or ''3+1" program that allows undergrad students to earn both an undergrad degree + masters at end of 5 yr or 4 yrs (respectively)? Often these programs allow students to "double count" some Sr yr UL courses toward both the undergrad and masters degree. I haven't found a program like this on UMN website (so far), but I noticed that some UMN masters programs have courses that an undergrad student may take anyway toward his/her major (perhaps as an upper level elective or focus in the major).

I know other universities (including state Us) are offering these programs.

If anyone has done something like this at UMN, I would really appreciate any information about what field(s), what your experience was and if you think it was worthwhile. Thanks!

As for the 4+1 or 3 + 2…I know they offer it with a wide variety of schools because I saw it when my son was researching 4 year schools. I wonder if you have to look at the individual undergrad school to learn this info.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer. Im so sorry I didn’t even bother to thank you all yet I got entirely distracted by my son getting so sick. Now that I’m back looking at things again, I found this thread again and have some info to add that may be helpful to others.
I spoke to UMN about this type of UG/Masters deal for majors/combos that are not on their formal lists. They told me that the honors advisors work w/ students to have flexibility in their classes both for “honors experience” courses and for the combo degree. The key is not to finish the UG degree before the grad degree (if you are trying to use renewable merit scholarship(s) to pay for masters). A student can indeed do combos not on the UMN website list. She also said that kids coming in w/ lots of credits often take grad classes and these can be considered 'honors experience" classes by talking to the advisor to set it up.
Thanks again for the help and apologies for not thanking you earlier!
Pretty sure you can do this in Applied Economics on the Saint Paul campus. You would take some masters level classes in your senior year. The Economics department on the West Bank doesn’t have a masters program.
You can do a CLA major (maybe others but I’m not sure) with a Humphrey School of Public Affairs graduate degree in a 5 year program. For example, I’m going to get my undergrad in political science and an MPP (Master’s of Public Policy) in 5 years instead of 6. http://www.hhh.umn.edu/degrees/other_early_admissions_programs/index.html
