Hey guys, i currently have been admitted by both of two universities, and my major is engineering(personally i prefer chemical engineering). I am international students and now i am disturbed by the tuition. UIUC cost about $45000, while $30000 is enough for UMN. Is there a huge difference between UMN and UIUC in undergraduate engineering program? Is UIUC worthy to pay $15000 more?

Minnesota has a better chemical engineering program; it’s been top 5 for as long as I can remember.

For chemical engineering, Minnesota is generally considered one of the top schools (so is UIUC, though it is commonly ranked slightly lower). At $15,000 less per year, it seems like an obvious choice if you are certain about the major. Even in many other majors, Minnesota is a very respectable school, so there are only a few not-very-common reasons why one would pay $15,000 more per year to go to UIUC.

However, as an international student, you need to assess how the schools are viewed by chemical engineering employers in your country of residence.

Minny is also a nice large city that might have more options for an int. student. UIUC is in a small rather dumpy college town.
