un-subsidized stafford

If a school awards you only part of a un-subsidized stafford loan , can I ask for more or is that set? My parents are struggling, I would pay the interest in school, just didn't know if the amounts were set when un-subsidized. I was counting on the new limits and I got the old. Thanks.
Also are all student private loans variable rates?

I was reading this morning that a lot of colleges aren't really ready for the increase and our asking for patience. This was on UC Berkeley site "Students who want more Stafford loans must work through their school but she hopes students will give her office tiem to out an "automated process" for making changes before calling"

This is very true Gaby. My office is still waiting an update for our software that packages students. Any award letters created right now display the prior annual loan limits...to issue the awards now, all letters have to be manually adjusted. Most FA Offices are having a very difficult time.

We were told to write it in our financial aid agreement that we want the 2000.00 extra (wish I could write in other things!) I'm sure next year or maybe next semester will be different, but the FA offices will be busier than usual this summer.
