Unapplied For / Miscellaneous Scholarship(s) - Notice

I've been reading that students sometimes are told they've been given scholarships and/or grants they never applied for, the news of which came as a complete surprise. My question is, how were such students notified? Was the good news made available on the website, did it come as a separate document in the acceptance package, did it come as an email, a separate snail mail letter, etc.

Also, when, in relation to the time of the acceptance decision, did this happen?

TIA

Well, our S did not receive any unpublished scholarships. However, he was rejected for one scholarship he didn't even apply to! That was in addition to rejections for Ervin, Rodriguez and Danforth. We thought that was pretty funny. "Look Dad! Another scholarship rejection and I didn't even apply for it!" At least he still has a good sense of humor about it. Despite those rejections, he was accepted to WashU. Sure would be nice for an out of the blue scholarship! Good luck!
