You guys will have a better chance getting in next year if you apply as a junior transfer, the sophomore transfer is EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE. Again, you guys are sophomore, you still have a chance getting in next year to finish BS/BA degree from Carolina, just keep the GPA up. For me, I applied as a junior transfer, I am sure my chance of attending Carolina as an undergrad would be 0% unless somehow I got off the waitlist on June. Good luck everyone, finish this semester strong!
@UNCISMYDREAM Same for me, if I don’t get in as a sophomore transfer I’m gonna make the most of it where I am. Don’t give up. Some people are going to get off the waitlist inevitably… so why not you? why not me? why not all of us?
it’s very exciting really.
@nduclaunc You can still apply next year as a junior transfer if you don’t make it off the waitlist, just make sure you keep the grade up. While it’s not very ideal for me to apply as a senior transfer with six completed semesters, maybe I should fight for UNC grad school? Will see.
@UNCISMYDREAM I know I could, but if I do not get in this year I am not going to apply again after being at a university for two years unless some crazy circumstance occurred/ I really felt called to. Seems like at that point, I tried, and if the door doesn’t open it doesn’t open and then I should bloom where I am planted. Don’t wanna drive myself crazy continually stringing myself along.
Keep the spirits up. I think we will get a shot at undergrad at UNC
@nduclaunc It’s very ideal to transfer after two years at UF, I would do that since UNC is my dream school for a long time. I completely lost my hope of getting in after being waitlisted, unless some magic happens in June I get off the waitlist.
@UNCISMYDREAM What makes you say it is ideal? I don’t think I could endure another year of waiting and contemplating if everything around me was temporary. I get that, best to plan for what is most probable, however you were waitlisted so that means you have a chance. Delays are not always denials
@nduclaunc got you, I think its ideal because the best time for transferring is before you start the junior year.
I actually think transferring as an upcoming Junior is actually a little risky as UNC only gives you 8 semesters at their school regardless of when you come in. So an incoming Junior would only gets 2 years to get all the classes in.
I would also recommend waiting to commit until I saw the transfer transcripts to see what UNC will allow to transfer as well as the AP classes you have taken. You can only take so many classes outside UNC as well. An example if you didn’t need language at your current college unless you place out, you will need 3 semesters of the same language. So that adds 3 classes right off the bat you will need. They do have summer school though in which you can take 2 classes per session and there are 3 sessions.
I am not saying it is not douible, but at the end of the day you want to make sure you are able to walk out of UNC with a degree. Careful planning can definitely help you achieve.
@Nurse001 a great point. For the most part,
at UF, early on I was given a link from an advisor to the UNC transfer catalog and have planned both my semesters with transferring in mind, so most if not all my credits should be transferable.
But I actually am very curious about summer school. I think if I were to get in I would try to do the summer II session. Do you have any info on this? I was just thinking about if there was certain protocol I’d have to follow for that.
@nduclaunc How summer sessions work there are 3. 1st on is maymester which is 3 weeks. Then Summer 1 starts in June and next one in July. That are about a month of classes everyday. They also offer summer school on line as well if you don’t want to be on campus. There is no financial aid offered unless you didn’t use your whole loan for the year, meaning your $5,500 1st year, $6,500 second year and $7,500 last two years. So for 2 classes which is max you can take on one semester is about $800. You would also need to pay for housing unless you get summer employment on campus like my son did so he lived for free. That is just the basic over information on summer school.
The only reason I talk about transfer credits is a student got in and posted on the admit page that they didn’t take a lot of his credits so all I say with that is to be careful if your already a Junior transfer. If your incoming Sophomore plenty of time to get stuff made up if needed.
@Nurse001 So helpful!! Thank you
I was surprised I was waitlisted. I really elevated my game last 2 years.

Anyone get off the waitlist into the “admitted”?
I don’t think so. They will start pulling off the waitlist I believe after May 15th.
I think I am going to apply to take a summer class at UNC, without knowing if I have been pulled off the waitlist or not yet (I have family I could easily stay with in Chapel Hill, making this easier).
Ideally, once admitted I would want to start in summer anyway, so I figure either way it goes, this would be the best case scenario. If denied, I would still get to take a class at UNC and get a taste of living out my dream of being a student there, and then if I were to be admitted, I could just change my term to summer and get to start early like I want to
any potential drawbacks to doing this? I don’t see it affecting my current app in any negative way.

When is the earliest people heard back last year?
It seems like last year and the year before people started finding out at the beginning of June! Last year it was around June 14th and in 2016 it was around June 8th.
Hello all,
I just checked my portal and received my acceptance to UNC. This is so much earlier than I imagined, a dream truly became reality today. Good luck to everyone as they wait. Trust that God will open any door meant for you.
Was there a reason you checked it?
