UNC 2018 Transfer Waitlist Student Thread

@Epictetus28 I was! I’m happy I got in technically but what are we supposed to do next semester? And aid?

Oh and stats (waitlisted with automatic acceptance for spring):
Top 50 University OOS from FL
Intended major: Statistics and Analytics
HS GPA: 3.2UW
College GPA: 3.8
ACT: 33
Took 15 APs through high school
Extracurriculars in HS, job, research position
Applied last year as senior and got rejected

Can you post your letter? And are you an incoming sophmore or?

no none of us can post our letters because the moment you close the tab you cant see the letter again.
and im an incoming sophomore but with about 30+ in AP credits.

There’s a guaranteed for spring?! And sorry, I’m confused, how does it go for being notified of admission for the waitlist?

@jmh77777 I would have a back up plan. Last year they only took 51 people off the waiting list and you stated you will probably get in because you will have a 4.0 this semester. Many of these kids will also have good grades. So basically it is a lottery.

Either way, you all deserve a pat on the back for the hard work and dedication each of you have shown for your studies. You’re doing all the right things, and that’s all you can do!

I’m ecstatic that they actually like me. I’ll do my “good luck” dance and hope for the best!

@Epictetus28 couldn’t agree more, well said!!

I guess, thanks. Still waiting on UVA and UMD.

Worst case I’ll just go to Alabama or stay here I guess

@jmh77777 Do you mind me asking what private college you go to in Florida? We are originally from Longwood Florida outside Orlando. Is your home state Florida?

Do they notify via email, portal, or mail for waitlisters who they accept?

Email, I know someone who got accepted from waitlist last year, he received the email in mid-June.

Is anyone who applied as a sophomore planning on applying again next year?

@lampostUNC Did you read your decision notification thoroughly? I say this because you may have been given a guarantee transfer for the Spring of 2019. I know many were caught up in the moment when they accepted the waitlist without reading their decision diligently, it happens. If you’re unsure, I recommend calling admissions and seeing if they can look up your file and let you know what steps can/should be taken going forward (depending on what you find out.).

@Epictetus28 I didn’t read it carefully. I wish there was a way to open the letter again. Thanks for the advice!! I’ll call them once their office is open tomorrow.

They won’t pick up for me lol

Just out of curiosity, If I had a 3.91 at UF this fall and some pretty impressive involvement (internship, etc in my freshman fall and a job) could my waitlist decision just have come down to my high school record (which I was denied off of senior year) and lack of enough hours to have really proved myself?

Just curious because I’m kicking myself for not foreseeing this and having tried harder to get a 4.0 this semester to show an increase in grade point average.
Just nervous how they’ll view a decline even if it means going from a 3.91 to a 3.8, or 3.7 etc.
Trying to gauge it and understand, and obviously wanting to make my way off the list just like all of you  either way, gods plan, what is meant to be will always find a way!

@nduclaunc There was nothing you could have done differently. A 3.91 for fall is amazing. I know being on the waitlist hurts. My daughter actually cried when she saw she was waitlisted. I gave her a few days to feel bad and then she was good. I have said this before “If the door doesn’t open then it is not your door.” Just do the best you can and submit your grades as soon as all your final classes grades post.

Why do you want to transfer from UF? That is an amazing school. My sister graduated from there many moons ago

@Nurse001 Thank you, that honestly made me feel so much better…I also absolutely love that “If the door doesn’t open then it is not your door.” I’ll remember that.

You’re right, I just gotta do my best. No sense in stressing.
Awesome to hear your sister was a UF grad!! You know, I really do not hate UF at all. I have gotten many great opportunities and met awesome people. Even been able to get pretty well connected with people who could help me in my future career path/pursuits. My friends think I am crazy for wanting to transfer.

But at the end of the day, the feeling I still get when I go visit my family in Chapel Hill is unparalleled. I imagine being a student at UNC and get chills all over. After getting rejected my senior year, I fully tried to be as excited about UF and give it a chance, but I still find myself daydreaming about being a tar heel a semester and a half in… and have never fully forgotten about how much I love UNC.
It is just something I could not ignore. I decided I had to give it one more shot, for my sanity. I just need to know I did everything I could to make a dream I’ve had since high school come true  That being said, getting waitlisted will cause me to make the most of the rest of the year, and what is meant to be will always find a way!!

Wow. Excuse that sounding like a cheesy admissions essay. But it was from the heart!! Lol :))
