I don't know if it will be true this year but if you check the old discussion forum on this site you will see that the decisions were posted on March 24th in 2004.

cat, I agree with Elizabeth, i don't think it means anything. cause why would we all be able to see it. odds are against all of us being accepted (sorry, i know that sounds bad but it is true). as for the cashier, i emailed them and it did not sound good. response was to contact admissions regarding my admission. i took that to mean i should not pay since i was not accepted. or wouldn't they just have said to send it in with your paperwork like the website says?

Anyway, yes, we are getting way too caught up in all of this but you have to admit that we really care if we are going to this much trouble. and it is fun to see what you can find out.

I'm not sure they issue a PID for every single applicant but who knows.
FYI - This info is available on the site for newly admitted students:

"Apply for campus housing via the online application on Applicant Central. Youll need your Person Identification Number or PID (provided on admission reply form)."

The site also states that you can create your Onyen "approximately two weeks after enrollment deposit is processed and prior to CTOPS." I believe that accounts for why you were not able to get your password even though you have a PID.

well, i think it is odd to be able to pay on your student account but not be accepted in unc. i even checked to see if the payment would go through and it does. so why do they let you do something that is designed for students if you are just a prospective student? wonder if they don't have their security up to par?

i can get all of this info too but there is no icon on my applicant central for housing. i would think that if you have that, you are in. cause why would they put that on your app central unless once they get you deposits, you can access it? does anyone else get the housing icon on app central? and i did have the orientation opens march 15 but that is now gone?

Based on Carolina's site, a decision has been made if you have been given a PID, but it is unclear what that decision is. Let's hope all that have a PID are a YES! Possibly the "last updated" date reflects the date the decision was made? My D's was last updated March 10.

From their site:
How To Get A PID
Students
Prospective students will have a PID created when a decision is made on an application or when data is sent to the University from the filing of a Federal Aid Form (OAR Outside Application/Resource cycle). The way in which students are notified of their PID depends on which admissions office they have applied with. Undergraduates will be notified of their PID when they are sent a letter notifying that they have been accepted.

Another interesting tidbit from their site to go with my other post:

How do I get a PID?
All persons affiliated with the University as a student, faculty, staff, or affiliate will be assigned a PID upon entrance into the University community. For more detailed information on how, where, and when PIDs are assigned please go to the How To Get a PID page.

carolinamom i hope you are right. my app states last time updated was 2/9. that just does not seem good to me? if everyone elses has a more current date, like 3/10. but i did send in my mid-year grades around 1/30 so maybe that reflects when they looked at those.

vatownsend - Didn't you mention somewhere that you got a likely letter. If that's the case I would be surprised if you weren't accepted. My D didn't get her application in util 12/5 so she is probably pretty far down the pike when it comes to review. She is in state and a minority so that might also affect the timeline. There are just so many variables. I would hold on to the knowledge you got the likely letter, I think that's the best news anyone could hope for short of the admission itself.

you're right except that someone posted that they did the chat room for unc and that one of the unc admissions staff said that a likely letter does not mean that you can't be rejected. and i have not gotten an email since the mid year grades one and my screen has not changed for status since 2/9. but who knows. they probably read this and think we are all nuts for worrying so.

The likely letter you received was, in part, intended to give you assurance as you wait for the last week in March. Likely letters from UNC are the exception, not the rule. I have watched my daughter's in-state, highly reputed high school send 30+ kids to UNC for the last several years and have never heard of a likely letter kid being rejected or deferred whether it was an EA or RD likely letter. I'm sure that you could train-wreck you senior year into a rejection but you obviously haven't. Relax and start working on your parents for OOS tuition and, if you go to UNC best of luck, you'll love it it and you'll get a great education along the way.

To be honest, for various reasons I don't think admissions can really come out and say that a likely letter means you're in. I don't know of anyone who has received one and then wasn't accepted. I would think that especially true for oos. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope all who really want it get in. I think the decisions will be out before the 31st, just as EA was.

My D received a likely letter in the early round and got in. As a parent, if a school sent a letter that was as "glowing" about the student and the student didn't get in, I would be raising some serious questions about the ethics of the admissions committee. The likely letter is very positive about how the student would make a contribution to the school.

I do agree with Carolina Mom that the school can not come right out and say it is a guarantee. What if they did and then got information that was really negative about someone who received a letter? They have to be in a position to decline that student. I think that as long as you have not committed any crimes or failed all your classes or lied on your application, you'll be fine.

vatownsend: I didn't realize you had received a likely letter! I agree with glasshalffull and CarolinaMom. I, too, have never heard of anyone receiving a likely letter and then being rejected; that said, I agree that they can't come out and say that a likely letter means you're in, because if someone does "train-wreck" their senior year (i.e., failing a course or two in your senior year; commit a felony; infinite number of bizarre, but unlikely, scenarios), then that's a potential problem. I agree with the others. Relax!

so, im not seeing any of this cashier stuff? and i dont know where you guys found your pid, so maybe it is a good sign for you guys? well... the waits almost over regardless so good luck to all of you

Ok, i assure you i have not committed any crimes or failed anything or lied. but i did skip school today to study for 3 ap tests and all i have done is type here! bad! so after this post i need to study.

jack, carolinamom and all, you are all so considerate. thanks. i realize that the stressing is just that. and relaxing is a good idea except i should be putting everything into keeping my A's in my ap classes.

zoom1017, do this. go to the unc site. pretend you are a student. if you think like a student, it will be easy to find out how to do this stuff.
under students, you can scroll down to university cashier. click on it and see if you have an account. now it may mean nothing. as for the pid, on the home page hit admissions. on the next pay hit graduate students (top right) and it auto takes you to applicant central. you can plug in your ss# or pid. to find your pid, plug pid into the search engine and it will take to the pid info site.

Hi Guys,
I have read all your posts. I have been able to get a PID # and when I go to the cashier it asks if I am making a payment for fall 2006 housing.
Does this mean anything?
