Hey guys! I am deciding between majoring in PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) or International Business. I already know that UNC is a reach school for me because I am out of state, however the question I have is, based on my stats, would applying to Arts & Sciences be significantly easier than the business school that I should go for PPE instead? I think I want to go to law school, however if I end up being unable to afford it, I would pursue a career in business. Any advice is appreciated! I am not sure I want to sacrifice my chances of getting in if I could transfer once I was sure after freshman year or when I could just minor in IB.
ACT: 33C-35E, 28M, 34R, 33S
GPA: 3.86 unweighted, 4.089 weighted
I will graduate with 6 AP Classes-AP Euro, AP Stats, AP Physics 1, AP English 12, AP Government, and AP Econ. I also took an American studies course through Kenyon College junior year.
I also have spent two summers interning at one of Ohio’s U.S. senators campaign.
Any information is helpful!
It seems that your unweighted GPA and your extracurricular are good, but I suggest not applying to Arts and Sciences, as your ECs and classes point to a political major. I’d suggest applying to Georgetown or UW or University of Pittsburgh for political science. Also, you were correct in stating that it is significantly harder to get into a out of state public school, unless they are below your stats.
Thank you for your reply. However, I am already planning on applying to UNC, I was just wondering which school within UNC I should apply to. PPE and International Business are the two majors I am most interested in. I would consider double majoring, but I just want to know if my stats are high enough to get into the business school because sometimes that can be more difficult and it will already be difficult enough to get into UNC out of state.
Long story short-do I have the stats to get into UNC-CH business school or should I apply to UNC-CH arts &sciences to increase my chances of admissions?
IMO, your stats are good to get you into UNC-CH, but to be on the safe side, I’d apply to the arts and sciences as some sort of social science major.
I agree. Apply to Arts and Science as that would give you the better chance to be accepted.
