UNC Chapel Hill 2020

Hey guys! I really want to know my chances for getting into UNC Chapel Hill. I am an in-state student and am currently attending one of the biggest high schools in the state. I am a full IB student (will have taken 16 IB classes by graduation) and have also taken 3 AP classes. Here are my stats:

SAT: 1980
CR: 630
M: 650
W: 700

GPA: 4.58

Extra Curriculars:
President of debate team
Planned a national debate tournament
Attended a week-long program at Georgetown about women’s leadership in politics
Worked on 2 political campaigns
Sunday school teacher

I plan to double major in Political Science and Economics (PS for the sake of my app) and mentioned that I want to be the youngest woman elected to Congress, after meeting the current titleholder this summer.

My main concern is I’ve had 2 C’s in high school…both junior year. One was in Calculus and the other in Environmental Science (both IB classes). I’ve heard that UNC turns anyone down if they have a C on their transcript, so I’m very worried.

Thoughts?

UNC-CH: Match/High match

Any other feedback? Please!!

First of all: The C’s definitely won’t get your application thrown away, although they will be cause for concern. Especially because your test scores are a litttttle bit low too. Good scores absolutely, but that puts you below average in all sections except writing. From UNC-CH’s website their middle 50% for SAT scores are:

—SAT Critical Reading 600-710
—SAT Math 620-720
—SAT Writing 590-700

Again, does this mean you won’t be accepted? Absolutely not. I think your passions sound genuine and personal, and hopefully that was able to shine through in your recs/essays/resume. However, going based on the numbers you have presented alone, I would say UNC-CH is a low reach. Depending on the “subjective” parts of the app, you could easily be a more than qualified candidate. Good luck!

Low reach.
