Reflection
•Strengths: Leadership, Experience (Mainly related to my intended major), ambition, Recommendations’, and Extracurricular
•Weaknesses: GPA
•I know my grades aren’t the best, but the reason for that is because I was always busy with school, and extracurricular activities. And I'm not using that as an excuse at all, but i think admissions will take that into consideration. And it wasn’t like I joined every club available just to be in them, I was an active member of each one, and I have leadership roles in many of them. So do you think that I have a chance at all? Also I’m great at interviews so hopefully I nail that too.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think your extracurriculars are going to make up for your grades. Probably 95% of the out of state kids I’ve met were in the top 10% of their classes. While your extracurriculars are extremely impressive, grades are also a huge factor, especially in OOS students. You’re going to need to raise your ACT and work really hard in your classes this year. They would rather you scale back on your extracurriculars to focus on academics.

Also, UNC doesn’t do interviews because of the sheer number of applicants. You do have room on the application to explain anything you didn’t say elsewhere, and I would also recommend highlighting your leadership positions in your essays.

Stick with Syracuse. Now that they are going to be in the ACC you can go see the Heels play! UNC only accepts 18% of their students from OOS. Your SAT’s need to be 2100+ and your GPA 3.8 or better. If its your dream go somewhere for two years and transfer.
Besides its 37K a year to go to UNC. Stay close to home and don’t go into debt for a college degree. It is not worth it. Good luck to you.

As a high school student applying, your chances are slim. If you really want to go there, you can do two years at a community college and then apply; much easier to transfer, especially for your junior year.

But to the above poster, it is not 37K a year. Well, it is technically, but based on what I’ve heard, very few people pay the full amount. I heard people generally pay their EFC, and then receive 60-65% in grants, and the other 30% ish percent in loans.

Your extracurriculars exceed mine in depth and commitment, but your gpa is horrible (no offense intended). You’ll have alot of trouble getting into UNC Chapel Hill! I’m not saying that you’re not UNC material; you still have a shot, though a slim one it may be. Like the two posters before me, you really do need to work on your gpa. Take regular decision and send in your ugraded senior year transcript! Take that extra time to study for the sat to boost your score. Best of advice I may impart to you! If you’re not too busy, chance me too!

Hello,
Though your extra curriculars are great, I think GPA is weak. UNC is a great school and I hope things work out in your favor.

Hi, I applied for UNC-CH regular decision because I wanted to take that first semester and improve my grades. Can anyone tell me my chances of getting into UNC-CH? And I am instate
ACT Score: 34 Composite
SAT Subject Test: 740 in Chemistry and 800 in Math
GPA: there is a GPA calculation issue with wake county… its not offocial… but my guidance counselor calculated it to be a 4.14. But, on my transcript, I had a 3.95 weigted GPA
Teacher Recs: I am pretty sure they will be above average or really good. I also had a recommendation from a UNC professor who I interned with over summer. Does that help at all?
ECs: I had average to above average ECs on my resume and common app
Essays: I am pretty sure I had decent essays…
Reason why my GPA is so low: my GPA does not reflect my intellect. In 10th grade, I received horrible grades due to personal problems (family). But, I rebounded in 11th grade getting all B’s and 1A. Then in 12th grade 1st semester, I received All A’s and one B. So, I have been on an upward trend. Does UNC-CH take this into account at all?
Can anybody guess my chance of getting in? I applied to GA Tech Engineering school and got waitlisted… I also got waitlisted from NorthEastern… the surprising thing is that I got denied from NC State.
