We are out of state, but I just asked if he received any email and he said no. There was nothing in the mail to us either. I am seeing that alum of kids applying get this kind of message. Are any of the kids legacies? Thanks!
I wouldnât waste any time worrying about a form letter. I donât think it means anything.
I agree. We received the same letter. In-state. Donât worry too much. Your child will get in where they are meant to get in and if theyâre a good, hard-working student will thrive no matter where they end up attending College applications are stressful enough for them, and if we start freaking out as parents it will make them feel even worse. Everything will be ok.
We received the same letter as well, as did a friend also applying EA. (Not trying to sound arrogant here) but my kidâs credentials (in-state, top 2% of huge class, IB, strong ECâs and leadership, MC school nominee) should make her a very good candidate for admission.
The letter is poorly written, as it comes across as a partial ripping of the bandaid. At least if it acknowledged they were sending it to everyone, or showed some admissions stats to give some context, it might be better. But sending a letter which basically uses college-speak to say âwe are grateful your child applied, but please keep in mind you are just one of thousandsâ is very frustrating.
My daughter received the same email about her application being complete and the letter you mentioned arrived for us today as well.
We are OOS and received the letter today.
OOS and received letter today. Hope that it does not mean anything bad.
OOS and also received the letter today.
OOS legacy. We got the letter today. I actually thought the tone & content were quite sweet and I just interpreted it as a nice touchpoint to say âHey, we got your app, hang in there and be patientâ
Just got the letter today and looked up this thread to get some context. OOS student, EA. Sounding more like an everyone letter than an Unlikely Letter, which is how it came across.
WellâŠif you are OOS, it is unlikely!
I took it as a warm touch point.
Interesting. My son applied EA but we havenât received any such letter (OOS). He did get an email asking him to create the myCarolina account.
We received a letter also, with the same information for our son. He is in state. I did some research and UNC does send some âlikelyâ letters to students.
We did receive it yesterday. It just took a few days longer than others. At first I didnât understand why not everyone would receive it, but looks like it just takes time. Our college counselor said yep, just their way of saying they get so many applications. I took it as a nice way of them staying in our sonâs mind.
My daughter already graduated (OOS) but I never removed myself from the parent group. A parent in the group asked about this letter 2 days ago and expressed concerns. One parent wrote that she received one last year for both of her kids- one was accepted and one was not. Other parents said they got one last year and their kids were accepted, etc. The general consensus is that the letter doesnât mean anything and it was sent to everybody. It may arrive at different times due to location and mail service. They did not send these letters when my daughter applied, but it was awhile ago. It seems like something fairly new because a few parents of current seniors at UNC said that they never received one.
We got ours Saturday.
Iâm not sure what the point of the letter is unless they get a lot of inquiries on their decision timeline and itâs a pre-emptive strike to minimize those questions.
NC State sends a similar email after receipt of application, just reminding of how many applications they receive and their admission percentage.
Got the letter in the mail as well
We got the letter (OOS and not alumni) yesterday. Admittedly I do think it reads much like a soft rejection because I couldnât find a purpose to it otherwise.
Daughter received the email about her application being complete but we have not received any letter in the mail (OOS).
