Can I get a chance me for the UNC 2023 EA please nervous as hell!
In state Indian Meck county; largest school in district
1450 SAT (720/730) -kinda low took it once at the beginning of junior year and did not take it again.
31 ACT
4.4 W GPA 3.96 UW
7 AP’s: Psych, HUGE, APES, Macro, Comp Gov, US GOV, Stat (all 4’s or 5’s)
EC
AAU Basketball (good amount of time)
Public Library Volunteer (50 hours)
Temple Volunteer (75-80 hours)
NTHS
Mu Alpha Theta
Started a senior center (25 hours so far)
Rec/church basketball all 4 years
Basketball referee
AP Scholar with honor , Honor Roll 4 years, outstanding volunteer at JCGC
2 essays were pretty good; recs from teachers that really liked me
Counselor rec was probably generic because we have over 3000 kids and there is no real personal connection
Common App essay was about an injury+basketball and how I overcame it
Pretty nervous, this is a pretty basic chance me because I am doing it during notes lol
You have good stats and plenty of AP classes, but as you know, in Meck County it can be tough. Nothing about class rank. You definitely are qualified to get in and have a very good chance, but there are no guarantees. Assured admission into Kenan-Flagler is very tough, so probably won’t get that (just setting expectations), but you never know. One bit of advice looking at your AP classes. It looks like you took Macro Econ, but not Micro. You can only test out of intro Econ at UNC by having both and it can be a weed out class for those wanting to get into K-F. Maybe take that if offered your last semester to eliminate that requirement. Otherwise, AP Macro is kind of wasted. K-F is very tough to get into once you are at UNC so testing out of weed-out classes always helps to keep a higher GPA. UNC GPA average for getting in K-F is 3.6-3.7. Good luck.
I’m top 6% or 7% in class rank and my school doesn’t offer micro! They were considering it last year but my macro teacher said that the principal did not think it was a priority.
Wow. I don’t know how it works for in state for getting into UNC with all the districts since I live in California. I got in with a 1390 SAT OOS. I applied under Business Administration, but I saw on another comment that someone said “Once you get into UNC it is hard to gent into Kenan Flager.” Does anyone know any more info on this and what the acceptance rate is once there? I know at Berkeley that you have to apply to the business school once you are there, but I did not realize that UNC was the same way
@catwoman101 it’s a load of s*** really. Tier 3 counties are assumed to be more affluent but i live with 10 other people(5 work, 2 retired) and that’s the only reason we are able to afford the house we live in
@catwoman101 Yes, you have to apply to the business school your sophomore year unless you are one of the few who get assured admission with your acceptance. They do not hand out many of them though. Look at the Kenan-Flagler website under undergraduate admissions and they will give you some information. For the class that applied back in September, around 700 or so applied and around half were accepted (maybe a touch less). Average college stats are 3.6-3.7 GPA. Application process is based on grades, essays, virtual interview, taking the business prereqs and other intangibles. On the K-F website they do have a section on expanding the business school so the class size of around 350 will be increasing some each year. Advice is to do well in classes, join business clubs, try to get officer and leadership positions, and try to do something business related between your freshman and sophomore year. Don’t take the process lightly as there are 4.0 students that don’t get in. Good luck and read the K-F website.
Oh I actually checked my Common App and I got assured admission into K-F because I applied EA and selected that option. Thanks for that information too; it is interesting to hear how difficult it is to get in. Wow.
@catwoman101 I don’t think they’ve announced who has received assured admission to Kenan-Flagler. That is an excel @ Carolina opportunity. I believe you will be notified of that shortly, its not an automatic if you are accepted EA and selected it. Good luck and hope you hear something this week.
As @Momto4kids states, they release that information later. There is not a lot of rhyme or reason to who gets assured admissions. At my D’s in-state school, two people got assurred admission, one being the valedictorian and one being someone with lower stats than my D, but did a summer program in business at Michigan. So, it is not stats or even expressing interest. When all is said and done, I think they like to make sure most of the class does well their first couple of years and makes sure business is where their interest lies, hence applying once you are at UNC. They will lose some people who want the guaranteed admission and may have it elsewhere, but there are plenty of qualified people people even so.
Oh I see. I misunderstood. Thank you momto4kids and jdogNC for clarifying this. I will let you know if I get assured admission into K-F, but I don’t have stellar stats or a business summer internship. Thank you all!
