@insanedreamer Yeah I agree too, but I actually know some pretty smart people who weren’t able to get into the b-school and ended up doing economics or another major they didn’t originally want to do.
@Dawsy79 I haven’t decided on what major I want in business administration yet, but I’m interested in Information systems or management. And yes, I have slowly come to that realization that I can’t make such an impactful decision based on friends. I am thinking about doing an MBA in the future, so that is also why I’m hesitant to join UNC. I’ll probably end up attending UF, because logistically it is the most sensible option. I guess it is just hard for me to leave my dream school behind. Thank you for the advice!
This will not be an easy decision. It is probably a good idea to attend UF but only you can know for sure.
How about enrolling at UNC and then transferring to UF if you can’t get into the UNC b-school?
With caveats around the facts that I don’t know you or your financial situation and based upon what you’ve written, I would choose UF. Debt free, excellent univ, and you will make friends at any univ. Having a “dream” school clouds the thought process, IMO.
Because she would have lost both the scholarship and the autoadmit to the UF business school?
Between the auto admit to the business school and lower cost (and graduating without debt), I’d pick UF… Also, if you are introverted, that’s even more reason to choose UF… You may think it’ll be harder because you won’t have friends already at the school, but I see the HS friends as a possible crutch. At UF, you will have to make the effort, try hard and again, and stretch yourself.
@Joblue Yeah, I can’t think about transferring if I go to UNC because then I would lose all the benefits of UF.
@dadof1 I definitely agree about “clouding” the thought process because I know in the long run UF will benefit me but in the moment now its just hard to turn down UNC
I was able to attend a presentation about the UF business school and was very impressed. I would go for the direct admit. No debt is huge.
A visit to Satchel’s Pizza in Gainesville would definitely help you decide in UF’s favor :).
Live your dream. Be a Tar Heel. (Always 2 words!!) Just know they are very tough about in state tuition, so if your parents move, expect to pay OOS.
You can easily learn to be a Gator!
You need to make the choice on your own of course.
Both are great campuses. Both are really pretty.
UF has a ton to offer on the club, sports front.
UF is a friendly campus, honor’s dorms connect you immediately with students.
It really sounds as if you want to go to UF but are looking for reasons not to. Go ahead, bite the bullet, and pick UF; stop agonizing over the decision, and put it this matter behind you. But whatever you decide, life will go on just fine for you.
