I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill, and I loved the school when I visited. I plan on majoring in English (for now) and they have a great English program. However, I am also considering smaller schools such as Tulane and Emory. I'm very concerned with teacher and faculty availability. I like when teachers and advisors know who you are, and when professors have some time to talk to you after hours about what you're learning. Did anyone who attended UNC Chapel Hill find that it was just too big of a school?

Also, I am concerned about the diversity of the student body. With about 82% of students coming from North Carolina, I think this is an understandable concern. How does this total lack of geographical diversity affect life at UNC? I'm from out of state. Will I be by myself on the weekends?

Hey!
I’m out of State and you will definitely NOT be alone! UNC people are very friendly and welcoming. I had absolutely no problem making friends with “North Carolineans” and I also found a bunch of out of staters! Obviously there is more NC people, but you will find your place among whoever at UNC.

Regarding teachers’ availability, it is not a problem at all. On the contrary, one of the things I absolutely LOVE about UNC is how much professors care. You should be aware that they only care if you care (It doesn’t seem like that’s a problem with you though). If you need help or one on one talks, they have office hours they hold and you can get to know your professor and get advise from them. If you can’t make their office hours most of them are willing to go out of their way to make sure there is a time you can meet.

I love UNC! It is an amazing school. Yes it’s big, but that hasn’t affected my experience negatively in any way.

I absolutely love this school and everything about it.

I second that. I went to UNC and absolutely loved it. I was an in-stater, but from everything I’ve seen out-of-staters blend in really well. There’s various clubs and stuff for OOS students if that’s a concern.

Chapel Hill is a very big school, which can make it a little unnerving during your first semester or so. But one of the great things about going to such a big school is that there’s no end to the groups/clubs/sports that they offer. Once you belong to a couple of clubs and start to build your circle of friends (which you’ll probably have for all four years) UNC won’t feel so big anymore.
