UNC Chapel Hill

I’m a current sophomore, and I want to get into UNC Chapel Hill. It’s my dream school. However, last year I did pretty bad, I had a GPA that most very good schools would deny me for. I’m doing really well in my sophomore so far, I’m studying a lot, taking an AP and I have all As a few tests and quizes into the semester. I’m motivated.

The classes I took in Freshman year were Honors Math 2 (sophomore class), Honors Biology (sophomore class), Honors English 1, Honors World History, and Spanish 2 (and a couple other electives not worth noting). This year, I’m taking Honors Chem, Honors Spanish 3, AP Human Geography, Honors English 2, Honors Math 3 (Junior Class), and Honors Civics.

What I’m here to ask is if I do well in these classes and in Junior and Senior year, could I still get in? If it’s a no, don’t spare my feelings. I need to get real and have realistic expectations. Thanks in advance.

TL;DR - I did bad in freshman year, do I still have a chance of getting into UNC

Lol you worry 2 much, just focus on your grades now, start studying for act/sat I would say summer after Sophomore year, look for volunteer opportunities (There are tons during the summer and school year), you screwed up at the best time, colleges LOVE improvement, just keep your head on strait, study, get some good ECs make sure you get to know teachers so they can write recommendations in the future, you’ll be fine

Yes, study for ACT really early (or SAT – take a practice test [dont pay for the real thing - just use the official books and time yourself] for each test and compare the percentiles, but if u study really early and u end up with a 32+ like UNC will def accept u bc anything in the upper 30s. But make sure you can keep your UW gpa above a 3.8 bc it’s only freshman year so it’s okay! do not slack off at all later on (maybe 1-2 B’s for sophomore, junior and senior year combined would be acceptable and only in hard AP classes)

Do well on standardized testing and keep your gpa up. Are you out of state? if so, only 12% of the accepted students come from out of state, so it’s very competitive.

It’s 18%- not 12%.
