Out of curiosity (I applied EA), does applying RD as an in-state student put you at a disadvantage in any way? I saw someone in this thread mention the level of an applicant’s interest by applying EA, yet the UNC common data set said that they do not consider an applicant’s interest in their selection process. I also realize that the acceptance rate for RD is lower overall due to the fact that most qualified applicants apply early.
@AndrewW98 Applying RD probably hurts a little if you’re an upper bubble student. Obviously if your stats are good it doesn’t matter when you apply, but for EA they want a certain number of IS accepted and would probably lean towards an acceptance in the EA whereas it might be wait list in RD for someone they’re not entirely sure about. Now, for a middle bubble student like me, it wouldn’t matter since they just defer a lot of kids so they can get a good comparison. Also, all colleges take, at least a little bit, displayed interest into consideration. That won’t come into play in EA vs RD, however, events such as Carolina and Beyond are noted on your transcript and they look at that. Lastly, the RD acceptance rate is lower simply because more OOS students apply, and they obviously take less of those, and for the reason you mentioned that the more qualified applicants tend to apply earlier as they are often applying to other prestigious schools at the same time.
Hey everyone!
Just remember that this year UNC received a record of first-year applications and as much as I would love the decisions to be released today or during weekend it is highly doubtful.
I know it is nerve-racking… but just have some patience and try to think about something else in the meantime. It’s spring break after all!
It seems like every school I applied to this year received a record of first-year applications :((
Yes same here and I think many are struggling to get decisions out as early as they did last year. It seems like we may have to wait until next week. @Sunny257 sounds like someone in the know.
Agh. Well, we should all enjoy Easter weekend and try not to stress too much O:-)
Does UNC typically release decisions on a certain day? like should we be expecting them on a specific day next week
No, there is no specific day.
I wish they’d give us a date already. Not knowing when the waiting’s going to end, makes waiting so much worse. Doesn’t help that UNC’s my last hope.
@caligirl97111 i feel that on a spiritual level
I gave unc until today to give me a decision. They didn’t so whatever I’m submitting my SIR to UCLA. #overit you can’t beat SoCal weather B-)
Since I got denied by UVA (which I THOUGHT that I had a good chance of being at least waitlisted despite OOS), looks like UNC’s my last hope…which is even harder on OOS. :////
Same… its UNC or bust for me (jk my safety is Lehigh but I really wanna get into UNC)
looks like we’re all in the same boat haha… good luck everyone! hope we all get in! [-O<
How many people are OOS? I’m so curious what matters most in these applications.
Hoping UNC is good news, DD got waitlisted at UVA and that was one of her top choices
I’ve been rejected or waitlisted everywhere I really want to go and UNC is the only place left that I really feel okay about going to… I’m hoping for all of our sakes we get good news! I’m an IS applicant.
I’m OOS too. I looked up past acceptance rates. Instate was 52% and OOS was 19%.
Any possibilities we’ll hear this weekend? UNC Chapel Hill is the last school I’m waiting to hear from before making decisions. Also my dream public school. I’m international student, so my chance is small, but really hope to get in.
I have a source telling me decision will be out tomorrow. Stay strong #unc2020
