UNC Class of 2022 EA Discussion Thread

Do you remember if the decisions were sent earlier in day or end of day last year?

@Hockeymom36 They were released around 4pm.

They said it would be requests from families that need to supply additional information. For example, for other schools we need to send copies of actual tax returns to support our CSS.

Did anyone else just get that ominous email about decisions release? Mine did not sound positive, currently #veryscared !

@sstayingpositive By “ominous” do you mean that they said decisions weren’t going to be released today or tomorrow? Because if so, don’t worry – that’s not ominous, it’s just what they’re sending to everyone who applied! We won’t know for sure until Friday, but based on comments from others, it’s my belief that the email was their way of saying, “Prepare for a Friday decisions release.”

@byadg123 do you mean that everyone who applied for FA but didn’t get an email wasn’t accepted?

@Bella2018 From my understanding, FA emails were only sent to those who needed to provide extra documents for verification purposes (or something like that), and @byadg123 is saying that the UNC financial aid office only bothers sending those emails for students they plan to admit. So going off of that, it’s a possibility that you could have been admitted but you just didn’t need to provide any supplemental documents. I could be wrong though – this is just based purely off of my interpretation.

NO! I mean they told me that requests would only go to accepted students. Most students won’t need to submit anything besides the FAFSA and CSS so have no reason to get a request.

I was planning on it being friday anyway. Have they ever released on a friday? I feel like their holding out for a specific reason and have to be done with decision at this point… maybe athlete signing and confirming spots idk?

So there are three groups: Those that are accepted and need more info, those that are accepted and don’t need more info, and those that aren’t accepted. Requests would only go to the first group.

I think they hold out so that people get their notification after everyone has left for the weekend.

@byadg123 oh okay, thank you! Most other schools I’ve applied to has requested “verifications” for FA, but I haven’t heard anything from UNC. I guess I was thinking that if extra forms were needed, we would have to do that as well. Also, my FA on ConnectCarolina says “no information found”. Is this normal? I submitted FAFSA and CSS Profile.

I don’t know anything other than what I posted above and even that came from one guy in the financial aid office. Could have been a senior director, could have been a work-study photocopy guy who picked up a phone by accident.

So really I don’t know anything at all. But neither do many/most people who post!

I just keep hearing friday from everyone I talk to. Going to be pretty disapointed if its not. Are the all posted at once after school on friday or is it later in the night? Any ideas based on previous years.

what if you didn’t put on common app that you are applying for financial aid but when you filled out Fafsa you listed UNC as a school you need aid for? would the send you an email about financial aid?

The whole financial aid things is silly. Its need blind and admissions doesnt look at financials, they accept kids on their application. Financial aid has to make sure everyones fafsa and css is complete so they can determine aid. They send out emails if parts are incomplete

By the way does anyone know if both of your parents being immigrants is considered a hook? I have zero other hooks so just wondering.

@Calikid18 Not really a hook like a URM, First Gen, low-income, or athlete would be, but makes for an interesting story if you expounded upon it and possibly describe the impact it brought to your life in writing and such. If you didn’t though, probably not as much.

I think the application being need blind is sort of the point. The admissions office isn’t in charge of aid - they send the list of students to financial aid who in turn sends requests to those who are short some info.

Hey at everyone on this thread: I am a freshmen or first-year here at UNC and last year, our admissions decisions for EA were released on Friday at 4:00 PM or around there. Also, usually when UNC has the red text message on the ConnectCarolina entrance thing, it means that decisions are coming out very soon and to be honest, y’all will probably get it this Friday.
