Hey guys I know this is off topic but has anyone interviewed for Harvard yet? I don’t know what to expect and I’m nervous!
@AlmostThere2018 Honors should come after the acceptance letter if chosen. But again, applicants shouldn’t really “expect” Excel@Carolina, even if they think they are a competitive applicant. No one knows what they’re looking for and their merit programs are insanely competitive to be chosen for. Especially with UNC, it’s best to be confident of course but never overconfident.
@Pastpower – tks, this is helpful. Yes, I know it’s really competitive so I’m going to try to downplay expectations. I think the reason she’s interested in b/c she’s also applying to small LACs and feels like Honors at UNC would in some way help create that same sense of community. Anyway, we’ll see. I think she’ll have some good options, and hopefully UNC is one of them! Tks, again
@AlmostThere2018 While I know they are nowhere near the level of prestige as UNC-CH, looking in-state the honors and scholars programs at NC State and UNC Charlotte are stupendous programs that would give that same sense of equally comparable and much smaller, community-oriented environments that recognize their top students (for wayyyyyyyy less money too, maybe even no debt at all). The Levine program at UNCC especially is nationally known.
Anxiously waiting for result…-_-
@Pastpower - She has applied to NC State, but not UNC Charlotte, so we’ll see. I know there’s a lot of ways to make big universities small so they are def. great options for her. If some of the selective small private colleges she’s applied to come through with some money that put them closer in range of in-state pubic, then she’ll have an interesting choice. She’s applied to places as far flung as CA, NY, and Maine where she potentially has a ‘geographic’ diversity advantage, but they are really competitive as well. She’s worked really hard and no matter where she goes, I think she’ll do great. College is what you make of it – not where you go! :). But since this is the UNC forum, I’ll end with a big Go Heels!!
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know of anyone who has gotten an acceptance yet? I submitted my app fairly early so I expected my decision earlier than the 28ish.
@jshutter444 All EA applicants recieve decisions at the same time
Has anyone received an @excel for the business school email?
Does anyone know when decisions will come out?
@nerdalert18 The best guess I have so far is the 26th based on past years, but UNC has not confirmed a specific date, just that it’ll be by the end of January.
Just a point of clarification: I applied to three excel@Carolina opportunities. If I get into one, I’ll receive an email saying I was admitted the day of, before decisions officially come out?
Is there a possibility decisions will come out this Friday or should we all expect the 26th?
The earliest they have come out in the past 5 years is 1/25, and they tend to be released on Thursdays or Fridays (I did a lot of research today) so I would bet on 1/26 being decision day. I’m getting more and more anxious as we get closer to the end of the month…
@lesjubilants As stated, for most Execel@Carolina, those chosen can expect something to come after admissions. But, there are exceptions such as Chancellor’s Science Honors, which I believe is the only one so far that has informed its semifinalists already. So if you applied for that one and have not heard back, you probably were not chosen for at least that one.
Do you know if people who were selected as Chancellor’s semifinalist can also be selected for other Excel@Carolina programs?
Last year(Class of 2021) our daughter was notified she was a CSS finalist via an email a few days after EA decisions came out so don’t give up hope if you haven’t heard anything yet. If I remember correctly, the same email contained invitation and info for the Selection weekend that was held around the first weekend in March. She was notified about two weeks after selection weekend that she had made the cut. If you are fortunate enough to be selected, the CSS scholarship is a fantastic program. The scholarship is very nice of course but what really makes CSS special is the resources they bring to the table to help the student be successful in their academics and research pursuits. Good luck to everyone!
I applied EA. UNC doesnt send me any emails. Should I be worried?
Is it possible to be considered for CSS if it was not included as one of the three choices? It seems like a good fit for my daughter, but was unaware of this program.
@cssparent It’s interesting that things seem a bit different this year. My son was informed last week that he’s a semifinalist and they requested he complete two essay prompts. I’ve been looking back over the threads from last year and it seems as though this “semi finalist” email isn’t how it is usually done. We also haven’t heard from anyone else being considered for any other excel@Carolina scholarships. We’re still wondering if this means that he is likely to even be admitted to the school in general! At this point we just hoping he’ll be admitted and can’t really think about anything else.
