Does the time the email is sent out have anything to do with who gets accepted or rejected? sorry im being paranoid, havent gotten in anywhere yet
HS counselor said applications were up 7% statewide.
should i expect rejection? this is my number one im freaking out
@ggirl2288 No one can really accurately chance you on here, and nearly every applicant has good ec’s. Just depends on what UNC was looking for and whether you’d be a good addition
Assume rejection and celebrate your butt off when you’re wrong!
Thank you for the posts- got that same email and was told Friday as well…
I want to know how many people freaked out when they saw the email. When I woke up this morning and saw an email with the subject “Important Update from Carolina” and the fact that the email started with “Thank you for applying…”, I immediately freaked out and thought that this was a rejection.
UNC CH only admitted 14% of out-of-state applicants last year. Do you guys know if they limit themselves to the amount of out-of-state applicants they accept?
@AcademiaSavvy: UNC-CH admits OOS applicants in numbers that are calculated not to exceed 18% of an entering freshman class. See “Undergraduate Admissions” on Page 2, here: http://www.admissions.unc.edu/files/2013/09/Admissions__Policy.pdf.
Further, UNC has been fined $1M recently for exceeding these limits: https://alumni.unc.edu/news/fine-okd-after-carolina-exceeds-admissions-cap-for-second-straight-year/. While this article is about 2 years old, it would suggest that UNC-CH is going to be careful about not admitting too many OOS students.
@acedemiasavvy yes they do, schools like UNC and UVA have to limit their out of state acceptances. So UNC I think cant have more than 18% out of state students at the school
@gandalf78 Oh wow, I had seen the affirmative action lawsuit against them and Harvard, but not that!
@lizthewiz Dang, the competitive state school in my state of residence only accepts around 6% of out-of-state applicants.
OOS students are a source of controversy in California too; currently about 16% statewide but 28% at UC Berkeley. California students get ‘shut out’ from the highest ranked UC as a result.
My counselor just let me know that this was UNC’s most competitive year ever. Fantastic news
I just got rejected from northwestern and not ready to get rejected again
My D was rejected from NU yesterday, maybe Emory today and UNC tomorrow. Tough stretch, but it all works out. Keep smiling.
Do the deferred applicants from EA reviewed separately or added to the RD applicant pool?
Man, seems like only yesterday I was eagerly refreshing my page for UNC decisions. Please, I urge everyone awaiting a decision to take your mind off this. Going on college Confidential won’t do a single thing to help tomorrow. Don’t post a last minute chance me or think about any regrets you may have. Do something you enjoy tonight and festers before the big day tomorrow. You’ve earned it. Good luck to everyone here and I hope for the best!!
@Pastpower What time do they usually release decisions?
@jeremy_cohrt Last year I believe they were up by 4 ET. No saying if that’s going to be the same this year but it’s a possibility
