I’m in the top 10% so I’m not really worried about ranking. Plus there are a bunch of ties in class ranking
@dkahfdfhk my stats are okay…my school is brand new so we don’t have naviance I have a 30 ACT but my GPA is really low because I was in the hospital for a month my sophomore year I have good extracurriculrs I’ve won a lot of awards and I’m hoping being first generation will help me I’m really just worried about my GPA
Oh and I’m 9/85 which puts me at literally 10.5% not 10% so that’s stressing me out
@spacebunsweetie my act was way worse than my sat and I submitted it. I superscored at like a 31??. I hope it does not affect my admissions. If your gpa was the product of extenuating circumstances I would assume AO’s would view it more “easily” but who knows anymore
Only 85 people in your senior class?! We have literally 10x that amount ?
Yes we are super small! We graduated our first class of seniors last year and our school is like an option to go to not like a zoned school or anything so yeah
@dragon8301 Just cause your counselor has been “100%” right in the past, doesn’t mean she’s always right lol
I’m a current sophomore at UNC who used to obsess about when decisions were coming out. A couple thoughts:
- 95% sure decisions will come out on Friday. If it’s not Friday, it’s Wednesday. IDK when last year’s came out but the seven years before that had decisions released Wed, Thurs, or Fri in January. Plus it sounds like y’all got that email that they always send out two days before.
- It’s truly a holistic process. For example, I got in with a 33 ACT. My roommate, on the other hand, had a ~20 ACT. We came from the same high school (in state, not Wake or Mecklenburg county, lol). So don’t stress if your score is a little lower than what people are posting on the forums.
This is also the first time I’ve heard of bias against students from certain counties, and this is weird to me because it feels like a LOT of people I meet come from Wake county… I guess it could be possible, though.
Why is everyone saying Mecklenburg County is so hard? I have family and friends from there and a friend said that her Naviance for her high school said about 100 kids are accepted to UNC every year, which is ridiculously high.
I have 2 kids in two different high schools in Mecklenburg and have seen their Naviance over a number of years and it’s never shown an acceptance rate higher than 28%. My sister also has kids in Mecklenburg and her high school also hovers around 28%. @mountainmama19 what high school does your friend attend and what % does her Naviance say?
Those three counties in particular are most populated so the absolute number of students admitted is high, but the competition is even harder, because of the high competition in those schools. My child’s class is 625 people and with a weighted gpa of 3.82 he is only in top 25%! That accounts for a total 9Bs and 19As with 10AP classes. Of course there is one more semester to go
It shows a 28% acceptance rate because it factors all admissions. About 80 are admitted every year from my school and if calculated it’s about 30-40% of the 200+ that apply that get in. We are also the largest HS in meck
Hey do you think they will send out an email when the decisions are out? Or do you just keep checking the portal?
Does anyone know approximately how many applicants there were for EA?
I would start checking the portal beginning 3:30 tomorrow. Results posts started to pop up last year on CC around 335-340. Don’t wait for email unless you don’t want to find out as soon as you can!
A total of 27000+ applied for EA

Just want to let everyone know that there are 3 outcomes for us tomorrow…
Admit, Deny, or Waitlist!
Also… in years past, they have accepted around 6200 total EA applicants.
In-State EA Rate of 48%
OOS EA Rate of 18%
Good luck tomorrow, everyone!
48% wow!
Anyone know of students admitted because of special consideration via music department?
i thought there was no waitlist
