UNC Class of 2023 EA Discussion Thread

Turns out I didn’t put RCN on common app. I don’t know how this affected my admissions

waitlisted from Michigan, 34, 4.0, 11 APs. congrats to everyone that got in

@MrRobot2018 For unc, high stats aren’t a given. They’re concerned with forming a dynamic class by means of holistic admissions, which means it’s not entirely surprising for some with extremely high stats to be rejected. This definitely contrasts with colleges such as Wash U, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, etc, where certain scores and gpas are almost a benchmark for application review.

Waitlisted from NY. 1400 SAT, 98 GPA. it do be like that sometimes but congratulations to those who got accepted.

Accepted OOS from NJ!!!
1550 SAT, 35 ACT
approx 4.4-4.5 gpa but we use diff scale

Congrats to everyone accepted!!
To those not accepted if it was ur dream school or one of your tops, what you do in college matters infinitely more than where you go. Keep your head up.

Accepted OOS from OH
1580 SAT
GPA 4.8 on 4.0 scale (class rank 1/400)
National merit semi
Asian

YAY! Son is IN!!! Out of state 4.89 4.0 unweighted 1st in his class. 33 act THRILLED!

Accepted!!! 30 ACT 4.0 GPA. Out of state

Accepted OOS! Wowowow

accepted oos from california!

Ok thanks! Do I have to fill out a form to apply for honors or do I just wait?

@canoeriver123 They will send an email letting you know about Honors Carolina. At least, that’s what they did with my son- there isn’t a separate application. Like the admission process itself, it’s difficult to predict, or even understand. When we went for the Honors Orientation, there were kids there who, I knew were B/C average students in HS.

EARLY ACTION DECISION: rejected! yeet
Planned Major/College: Arts and Sciences, Neuroscience

State Residency: OOS, Connecticut
SAT/ACT: 1490 (750 reading, 740 math)
GPA: 4.38 weighted, my school doesn’t report unweighted
Rigor: I’ve gone to two different high schools and they were both medium/hard, but both public schools. Taken 9 AP classes, 4 regents, and lots of honors.
Rank: School doesn’t report
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Extras/Volunteer work/Talents/Jobs: 2 jobs in high school and manager at one, founded a YMCA Leaders club, secretary of a founding Model UN club at my school, student gov junior/senior year, varsity tennis freshman/sophomore year, varsity sailing junior year, orchestra all 4 years and made all-county/western region (different between NY and CT) freshman, sophomore, and junior year
Demonstration of Good Character: Very close with all my teachers/guidance counselor who wrote letters of recommendation

Thoughts on why you received that decision: I was totally expecting to be rejected and it’s honestly all good. Out of state is ridiculously hard and I didn’t want to get my hopes up, and I know that I will end up where I was meant to be! Good luck to everyone!!

For the honors college can you submit the preferences for the living learning communities before you are sure that you want to go to the school?

@Squidney142 - Someone probably already created a FaceBook page for you  Failing that, once you receive the email, you can write your profile on the UNC Housing Portal, and reach out to profiles you like. Understand, though, your own sleeping habits can change: My son’s roommate said he usually slept around 10, just like my son, but he now sleeps after 3 AM almost every day. There are times when he’s just getting to sleep, when my son wakes up around 5. But, they really get along, and figured out a way to sleep through pretty much anything!

I’d wait until mid feb

@froshusa - You will be notified if you were accepted into Honors Carolina. The housing portal will be opened over the next few weeks, and you will be able to choose your preferred halls (You don’t need to confirm you will go to UNC for this). Honors housing is not guaranteed- my son was in Craige, not Horton. Horton is a 4 person suite, so the students would be responsible for cleaning, and stocking the bathrooms. Something to consider

@dkahfdfhk that means you were considered as an out of state applicant if they didn’t have your in-state status information. Such a small mistake but makes a huge difference. Sorry bro

Accepted In state!!!
African american female
Uwgpa: 3.9
Wgpa: 4.45
Act 30, sat 1380

For people who got waitlisted, the Common Data Set for UNC says that last year, only 22 out of 2300 people who were waitlisted were admitted. Just a heads up, so as hard as it is, I wouldn’t dwell too much on UNC and give yourself false hope.
