at breakfast yesterday my mom brought up transferring from carolina to uncw because i'm a comm-media studies and production major. I really love carolina and don't want to do this but they supposedly have a really great program and more connections with the industry.

by the way, I'm just trying to find a little more about it. I really would prefer to stay at unc, if the advantages offered by wilmington aren't overwhelming.

in a general sense, unc is much more prestigious and much better academically than uncw, so if you decide to change majors (like most people do), then you'd probably be better off at unc than uncw.

My brother was a comm major and just graduated. He, and sixteen other people in the major, got really good internships in Hollywood through an alum. My brother has two internships - one working with Lion's Gate films, and one working with this 3D film company that's coming out with an IMAX feature on Iceland.

Carolina's comm department is small but its intimacy has a lot to offer. If you're happy at Carolina, please don't be offended, but it sounds like a very dumb idea to transfer to UNCW.

that's great. I really don't want to transfer so it's nice to hear that carolina offers opportunities after graduation for comm students! Now I can just tell my mom about your brother if she brings it up again.

I've lived in Wilmington for the last 10 years and have known many people graduate from the aforementioned program.

You do get to work on some small films (shorts mostly) but if you think about it there are about 500 undergrads looking to get the, maybe, 50 jobs a year.

I know quite a few graduates from UNCW working in restaurants downtown.

Stay where you're at.

I'd say to stay where you are.

PS: My boyfriend is in that same major and track at Carolina too! :)
