I'm looking at UNC and I want to double major in Computer Science and Finance. First of all, is this even possible? I know engineering is tough and I want to know if it's possible to manage the course load. But I also was interested in UNC's undergrad CS ranking. I know it's not like UCLA or UMich, but I was wondering how far below it was?

Possible? Very. People do it all the time, though I think you’d mean CS and either Business or Econ — it’s not called “Finance”.

You can probably Google the rankings. They’re misleading anyway, and any curriculum will teach you the same stuff up to a certain point. Tech companies hire you based on how well you code. Plenty of UNC CS students go on to jobs in either Research Triangle Park or Silicon Valley. UNC’s focus is really in anything graphics-related (medical imaging to rendering), though there’s also good research in operating systems and artificial intelligence happening — we’d be good if you’re particularly interested in those areas. The advantage of the top-tier CS schools (really only the top five or so) is that their student bodies are more focused on coding, and you’d learn a lot from your classmates, but UNC may be better if you’re also interested in business, or if you just want to branch out and try other things. We have a ton of good majors, really.
