Unc ea 2025

NCSU is hosting virtual updates for guidance counselors about EA on Jan 20 and 21, so that could be in prep for a 22nd release.

Waitlist is technically no different than Deferred since they can move you up any time they want. It also probably helps them in terms of who wants to stay on it and accept a position and who doesn’t.

Generally UNC has released decisions the last Friday in January. This year and last year there have been five Fridays, and there are usually only four. Last year they released on the 4th Friday (the 24th), so I’m hoping we will know Jan 22. Also does anyone know if they announce an official release date?

Also last year NC State released their decisions a week before the release date on the portal

They haven’t in the past. They usually give a date but release a little before that on a Friday right before closing for the weekend.

I noticed that about last year, so your theory of Jan 22 makes sense.

They just said on their unc admissions instagram story recently that they are still working on admissions in the coming weeks in order to release decisions by the end of January…so vague haha

@giraffegardener The good news is that it is only two more weeks tops!

Where on the website do you see the info about no deferrals of EA candidates? I see the FAQs for counselors page but can’t find where that’s written in the Q/A… Thanks!!

It’s there, but deferral is really like a waitlist so…

@maya77

I just read the links a couple of folks have provided. The page seems to define the possible decisions, but I don’t see where it addresses anything about EA vs RD. When I Google it I find the preview someone pasted above about EA but when I select the page I’m directed to the decision definitions with no mention of EA. :thinking:

@DramaMama2021 I interpreted that to be for both EA & RD applicants. I assume if the outcome were different among the groups, they would have made that distinction.

If you scroll further down that page with the link both @H0llyw00d and I provided, you’ll see where it says Decision Timing. In that table, they show EA, RD and Transfer, so it seems obvious that Admit, Deny, or Waitlist applies to all 3 of those types of applications, hence if you applied EA, you will be Admitted, Denied, or Waitlisted.

@H0llyw00d YES!!! Similar to what I just said as well. They list all the application types below the decision types. Seems fairly straight forward. The only decisions are ADMIT, DENY, WAITLIST.

And, honestly, as I’ve said a few times…being waitlisted at this point isn’t much different than deferred. They can take you off the waitlist and accept you with the RD pool in March if they choose.

@srparent15 Agreed! :slight_smile:

I understand what you and @H0llyw00d are referring to. I was looking specifically for the article that shows in the preview but apparently that is an old inactive link from whenever they made the switch to no longer have a “defer” option with EA. I was curious about that thinking this was the first year they no longer deferred to RD from EA.

Thanks for both your responses.

The UNC admissions office reiterated this on their instagram story this week. No deferral for EA. Only Admit, Waitlist, Deny for EA.

Previously, admissions to UNC for top students has not been overly difficult if you were instate (21% overall which is not terrible but much higher for top NC applicants)…given what is going on this year with test optional, increased applications, etc, does anyone have any thoughts that it might suddenly become much more difficult for instate applicants?

Any updates on the date decisions will be released?
