UNC OOS Chances?

I am a Texas senior in the top 6% of my class (31 out of 617). I got a 32(34m/e, 32cr,27sc) act and 2180 (760m,670r,750w) sat. I am awaiting NM notification but probably got commended. I was in NHS for 2 years, young republicans for 2(though I don't identify with the movement any more). I competed in academic competition in current issues last year and will compete in science this year. I have 30 hours or so of community service mostly helping plant at the school. I played subvarsity basketball for 2 years before quitting to get a job. I worked at a grocery store for a year. I was involved in debate for a year. I am a teacher's aide for my physics teacher. I am taking the most rigorous schedule possible 5 aps and a dual credit class. I have taken hard classes in all my previous years too. All this being said, do I have a good chance of getting into UNC?

I think you would be a great canidate!

OOS is really competitive but if you get in with the covenant it’s hard to find a better aid package. I think you have a good shot. Best of luck.

Based on what I’ve read on this forum in the last few months, it definitely looks like you have a good shot. Though like John mentioned, OOS admission is more comeptitive.

Btw, John; is it easier for an OOS community college transfer to get in to UNC than a OOS high school student? Any statistics on that? I know the GPA requirement is lower, but is there statistics that show more OOS transfer students are accepted?

John Black:

What do you mean by “the covenant”???

Floridadad: [The Carolina Covenant ~ The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill](http://www.unc.edu/carolinacovenant/)

Don: It’s hard to compare the groups holistically since not much admit data is out there. I haven’t seen a lot of HS data/SATs from OOS transfers.

I would assume a CC transfer is easier since 1) there is no OOS cap on transfers 2) admit rates are higher probably due in part to number 1.

Thanks John ! Also seems like the GPA requirement and such is a lot lower for transfer students. Probably another reason why admit rates are higher, in addition to there being no OOS cap (on transfers).
