I’m a speech pathologist. If you are instate for any of these, go to the instate option and save some money! Your daughter will need a masters degree to be a practicing speech pathologist. All three of those programs are accredited by The American Soeech Language Hearing Association for their grad programs.

The accredited programs really have the same required course.

If your daughter wants a city, she wants Pitt or UNC. Uconn is not near a city. I’d she wants warmer weather, she wants UNC.

But really…any of these schools would be fine. All offer many other majors, in case your daughter changes her mind!

thumper1: Thanks so much for the info. Is there anything you would suggest in her schooling process?

She needs to get the best possible undergrad grades. And she needs to do well in any clinical courses she takes.

Admissions to grad schools in speech pathology are highly competitive. There are NOT enough spots in all the grad programs for the undergrads. And folks from other majors apply to speech path grad schools as well.

As I mentioned earlier, keep college debt to a minimum. Speech pathology is a wonderful career, with many options. But beginning speech paths are not highly paid.

Just last week I heard about a speech pathologist with $150,000 in college debt. She is working TWO part time jobs just to pay her college loan bills. She has precious little “free time”.
