How is the social life at UNC-Chapel Hill? And by social life, I don't mean the parties or the Greek Life but how open are students to making new friends? Because, as a person that's been shy and quiet most of my life, I am usually not one to go out and make friends myself, I usually just wait for the other person to come and talk to me. I've always told myself that I'll go out and make good, lifelong friends in college but I read something yesterday that said that people at UNC usually just stick around with their high school friends and aren't keen to make new ones...Is that true?

As someone who hopes to transfer to UNC, I’ve done my research, and from what I’ve read, people seem to be very friendly and approachable. I went to a high school where tons of people go to UNC each year, and every one of them is very outgoing. It’s true that people who go to UNC stick with high school friends to an extent, but it’s because 82% of the undergrad student body is from NC. It seems like you’re worried about a “rift” essentially between in-state and OOS students at UNC? From what I’ve read, students are very welcoming and open to other students. In fact, and this is just me, but as an NC resident, I would be excited to meet people that aren’t from NC. UNC has plenty of clubs, so if you’re not into greek or parties, there will still be plenty of things to interest you.
