UNC Transfer Fall 2020

@heyigotnoclue Yeah, I have about 10 more decisions I’m waiting on.

@Lfriel i got piles of UC and east coast schools like uVA and stuff

@unchopeful1999 I found my roommate a few years ago in a UNC transfer Facebook group. I’m sure there’s a group made for the 2020 transfers as well.

Does anyone know if it is weird to ask high school teacher for a letter or recommendation and if this helps for UNC ?

@statetransfer I wouldn’t say “weird” but I’d say that UNC would probably prefer if a college professor gave a recommendation for potential transfers as they can attest to your performance as a college student rather than high school performance.

WTH I GOT IN but not into business wth

HOLY MOLY OF GOD OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

is it possible for me to reapply to UNC as a senior but with a different major?

@heyigotnoclue so I assume you clicked the option on the common application that said if you don’t get into the professional school (b-school) you would also be considered for the college of arts and sciences?

Do you know how we can see our financial aid package without accepting admission yet? Also, does UNC give transfers good financial aid?

ACCEPTED! i did a happy dance and my mom called me weird but it’s fine.

only issue that I wasn’t accepted into business which is weird but I guess they gave me ECON

GPA: 3.75
LOCATION: OOC
ECs: I currently have a full-time job in healthcare.
REC: Only Acct professor ← honestly i think that got me in because she wrote two pages she told me
SAT: did not submit

Hooks?: er low income?, OOS but that didnt really help here, and I will be graduating my CC with 7 associate degrees

Imma call them tmr to see about the business program but CG TO EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD. Feel free to reach out to me!

@Lfriel - i think i did because it said CALS

@babyblue79 It took a week and a half after I was accepted before I got my financial aid package. They do give good aid depending on your EFC/financial situation. If your family makes below 200% of the poverty income, you will be eligible for the Carolina Covenant. This will cover your total Cost of attendance minus your EFC. If your EFC is 0, you get a full-ride essentially. In addition, many students are eligible for the CCI computer grant, meaning you can receive a free Lenovo laptop (mid range). If your family income is a little on the high side, potential aid starts to go down, but UNC tries to meet your estimated need (Cost of attendance minus EFC).

@statetransfer you are required to take 45 hours (minimum) at UNC. If you came in as a senior, that would put you at 90ish credits completed, give or take (90 is the minimum to have senior class standing). You would have to take 3 semesters of 15 credit hours to fulfill that requirement. Typically, some classes from your former college don’t all transfer to UNC as smoothly as you’d like, so it may end up that some courses don’t transfer and you may actually be considered a 2nd semester junior. I would only apply to transfer to UNC as a senior if you plan to stay at least one extra semester.

Okay awesome! Thank you so much for the detailed reply. If my EFC is 571, do you think that I will get good aid. I got accepted as a senior in high school and got really great aid, but my income was extremely low then (EFC=0) and plus idk if they are as good with transfer students.

You should still be eligible for good aid with that EFC. As long as you have already submitted your FAFSA, you should get the same amount of aid as a non-transfer with the same financial situation. The only out of pocket cost should be your EFC. Everything else should be taken care of. @babyblue79

@heyigotnoclue I got into the business program. I got wait listed last year.
Major:Economics
Current year: Sophomore
College GPA: 3.85
High School GPA: 2.8
-3 Letters of Rec. One from alumni

College: NC CC
Extracurriculars

  • Successful Software Dev. Business
  • Multiple internships
  • Generic student gov and club positions

@Jojotheguy OHHHHHH SHOOOOT MAJOR CONGRATS!!!

imma call to see if i can switch but we will see

CG!!!

So if you didn’t get into the business school outright, I believe you have to apply for the business major once you begin at UNC, you can’t call and ask for a switch. Not to lower anyone’s hopes but it is pretty competitive (definitely doable though) to get in as a transfer unless you are accepted outright because non-transfers have had the advantage of networking with members of the KF staff and other contacts, potential campus jobs and internships etc. @heyigotnoclue

Hi All -

Congrats to all who got in! Chins up to those who did not. Everything will work out!

I was denied admission into the Undergraduate Business Program, however was accepted into the College of Arts and Sciences.

Some stats for reference:

-Double Major at top 100 U.S. university
-3.8 GPA
-1380 SAT
-32 ACT
-ECs: Business Peer Mentor, Scholarship Chair of my fraternity, community service project club

Seems like Kenan-Flagler was pretty competitive this year. With that said, I am not upset and am thankful for the chance I have been given. I am confident things will work out! Best of luck to everyone!

@reidtw - what did u get in as? for ur major?
