UNC Transfer Fall 2020

Anybody think tomorrow will be the day or should we expect later in the week?

I’m expecting a rejection so they can take their time lol But if I had to guess then I’d say within the next two weeks.

My mind keeps telling me its tomorrow. Following the pattern it’s sometime this upcoming week. lol I’m expecting a rejection as well, the competition is real this year.

All of you have awesome stats! Cheering for everyone here to get accepted. ?

At this point I’d be thrilled to be on the waitlist. Stocked up on Haagen Dazs since thats my comfort food and I feel like I’ll need comforting once decisions are out. ?

Monday the 6th seems way too early. I’m expecting either Thursday or Friday this week since in the past, they usually seem to release their transfer decisions on a Thursday or Friday (With last year being the one exception)

Did anyone else here also apply to NC State if they don’t get into UNC?

Nope. Content with guaranteed UC options if all oos applications are rejections. Definitely would try again for grad school.

Does anyone know what are the most competitive majors at UNC?

@statetransfer Not sure how competitive these are, but I found a list of the 10 most popular majors at UNC. https://www.unc.edu/discover/top-10-majors/

Hoping for tomorrow, the wait is killing me! Although I do agree that the 6th may be a bit too early, especially with the hiccups related to the coronavirus and all of that.

i doubt it is tmr, guys. its very early. :frowning:

Hi! I’ve been looking at this forum for a while and now that decisions are getting closer I’m getting so anxious. Can somebody chance me?

I am a freshman at the University of Southern California, but I am an NC resident, so I think I count as in-state.

High school stats: UW GPA: 3.96 and W: 4.31 i think? ( I got all A’s for all of my classes except one of my AP’s, which I got a B in, and I took 9 AP’s in total)

SAT: 1420
ACT: 31

I’ve had a lot of EC, including 2 leadership positions in clubs
I was in National Honor Society and graduated Summa Cum Laude
I was in the Spanish Immersion Program (fluent in Spanish) from K-12 and graduated with that diploma.
I’ve had over 150 hours of volunteer experience.

Currently in college, my GPA is a 3.6 (I had a rough first semester so I’m worried about that messing me up)
I come from a low-income household and am raised by a parent who didn’t go to college (not considered first gen though because my biological parent went to college, even though he’s not a part of my life)
I have a leadership position in a club here at USC as treasurer, I have a job at the school of dentistry, and I volunteer in a lot of other organizations, one of which I wrote one of my essays about.

I have two letters of rec.: one from a professor at UNCG who is a family friend and one from my calculus professor at USC.

I am applying into Biology.

It’s looking so competitive this year!! All of the stats already posted look so great.

A rational part of my brain says that tomorrow is too early, especially considering the COVID19 situation. But another part of me thinks it very well could be tomorrow. In 2016, they released on April 7 at 3 pm. 2018, they released Friday April 6 at 3. 2019, they released Monday April 8 at 4. So, the 6 is certainly not an outlier, as just 2 years ago they released on the 6 and the last 3 years have all been on or before April 8. Also, the pattern goes: Thursday, Thursday, Friday, Friday, monday (over the last 5 years, as mentioned earlier in the thread). Perhaps they will continue to follow the pattern. Their office also responded to someone earlier in the thread stating that they have not been delayed at all.

I guess at the end of the day they will come out when they do, but I know we are all anxiously waiting to hear so its almost impossible to stop yourself from trying to obsess over it! I have checked myCarolina like 3 times a day for the past week lol. Anyone else??

And to answer your question about what the most competitive majors are, as someone with many friends at UNC (and have visited dozens of times), I have heard from them that the hardest majors to get into (because you have to apply to majors if you do not transfer in as a junior) are:

Biostatistics (only accept about 20 a year, interviews needed)
Health Policy and Management (again accept very few per year)
Business (only accept about 50 percent, interviews needed)
Biomedical Engineering
Media and Journalism
Comp Sci (though it is in Arts and Sciences)

This competitiveness mainly stems from the fact that these are all professional schools (except comp Sci) that offer undergraduate degrees, and they are not contained in the general college of Arts and Sciences.
Most degrees in the Arts and Sciences (which is the majority of degrees offered by UNC), are fairly “easy” to get into once you are at Carolina (as in most people who have a passion for their chosen degree are usually able to pursue it). This does not mean that they are any easier to actually complete, as any degree from UNC will be rigorous and rewarding.
I hope this helps!

Last year it seemed that not everyone got their decisions the same day, as some got their decisions later than April 8th. Does anyone know why these people didn’t get their decisions earlier?

@Starfoxx87 I applied to the college of natural resources at NC State, as a backup for if chapel hill doesn’t work out

@mkmk29 I think that those whose decisions were not released on the day that most other peoples’ were was most likely because they had some materials come in a little late (like transcripts, test scores, etc). Everyone who submitted their application by February 15 or 17 and got their materials in by March 1 should receive their decisions on the same day.

@babyblue79 you seem like you have a very good chance. I know that UNC tends to favor in State much more than out of state, especially for a major like bio. For med school they accept more instate than out of state. Also, the average transfer GPA varies between 3.6-3.65 each year so you’re right on track. You seem like a solid candidate. Good luck!

@unc2023hopeful I can also verify that info since I have a lot of friends there and have been there many times!

I am so nervous about this decision. I hope that I would get a waitlist rather than rejection.
