Thoughts?
Based on what considerations?? Hard to give any meaningful thoughts without relevant info.
General thoughts. Undecided major, program. Many different interests in arts, humanities, sciences. Serious student but also wanting to have fun. Music, film important. School spirit as well.
Well, they are both really good schools! If you have gotten into both, congratulations! In terms of distinguishing between them, stats for incoming freshman are very close, with UNC admitting a broader range of high quality students, albeit slightly lower on average than those of Tulane (ACT 27-32 at UNC, and 30-33 at Tulane). Intercollegiate athletics at UNC are far superior. Next year Tulane will be in a rebuild mode for its Division I programs, with a new Athletic Director, a new football coach and a new basketball coach. UNC is considerably bigger. Tulane is in a very interesting, culturally different, very lively city. Community service is a very integral part of the Tulane culture, given its location in a city with a good deal of need. (despite its location in a beautiful, leafy part of uptown). Both schools excel in the sciences, but UNC probably has broader offerings for engineers. The few engineering majors that Tulane has are very good though, especially biomedical. Both have an international focus. Tulane probably has the edge if you’re looking to Latin America, or to work in a city with links to Latin America. (e.g., Miami, Los Angeles, various cities in Texas, etc.)
Bottom line: you can’t go wrong either way – check them out and see where you feel more comfortable. Best of luck!
