UNC vs. W&M

HI- trying to compare the college education and experience between these two. Obv. you get out what you put in, both are great schools. Actual size isn’t a true issue- both sizes seem great, on the surface. Wondering if size of W&M hinders course availability? This can be an issue at a large school, but will a small school be even “worse”? Business is the goal- both require application as a junior. UNC crazy hard to get into. other threads here say W&M not so much, though both are ranked very well.

Any other thoughts from anyone who has been to W&M? Leaning UNC so now’s your chance.

Have you been accepted to both? If so, are you in-state or OOS for one or the other?

My son was accepted into Honors Carolina and Carolina Research Scholars, in-state, received a “likely” card from W&M. Having seen the financial aid awarded by UVA, and assuming WM will be around that range, he’ll probably end up in UNC, especially given all the extra opportunities they’re sending information about- the courses, seminars, something about a laptop that came today…

My son was accepted to UV, and UNC and received the likely postcard from W&M. Given that we are VA residents, right now in-state is looking like a better option financially. W&M is an amazing school. Small school means smaller classes. I suggest looking through the catalog and comparing the types of upper-level business courses that are offered in each school. Print out the degree requirements and compare them side by side. Then consider campus enviornment which will be markedly different between schools. Go to admitted student days for a visit. Good luck. Tough decisions to have to make, but great options.

What is especially great for an undergrad student about W&M, we thought, was the extremely small grad student population. That means more research opportunities for the undergrads. Lucky you, @VAMom23 we would have loved sending our sons to VA-One of them has REALLY bad allergies, but did great in both the schools there. The question really boils down to whether or not we want to spend an additional $80,000 for that reason!

@Essel I hear you. That is a huge amount and would make it an easy call.

Go Heels!
That is all.
