UNC's policy about driving

hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew UNC's policy on driving and who are allowed to bring their own cars and obtain parking passes. thanks!

Freshmen aren't allowed to have cars. That's all I really remember about the topic from my tour. The website probably has more details.

<a href="http://www.dps.unc.edu/dps/default.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.dps.unc.edu/dps/default.asp</a></p>

check around on this site. don't have the time (and dont want) to type all the information you might want.

Freshmen aren't allowed to have cars, but there are several park and ride lots (park off campus and ride the bus to the lot) and lots of spaces for sale at people's houses off campus, etc. So, if you really want to have a car and are willing to pay for parking, you can do it. I know several freshmen who have cars at the PR lot and it is nice for weekends to do stuff like go to Southpoint, concerts in Raleigh, etc.

Yeah, unless you want to pay big bucks, count out driving your freshman year.

If you're OOS, there's no resaon to have a car. Everything you need can be accessed via bus systems, plus when you want to take a trip somewhere, there's in staters who always have a car.

Car alternative:

My freshman d took her Vespa and getting a motorcycle parking permit was very easy. She parks hers in a covered parking garage across from her dorm at night and during the day she just chains it to bike racks. It's not really good transportation for getting to Raleigh or Durham, but fine for tooling around Chapel Hill.

And yes, bus systems will get you anywhere you need to go.
