No but I’ll make him aware of it. Thank you so much!!!
@csggirl when did you find out about financial aid? Just curious to know how long that takes to update?
My son was accepted too! Congratulations everyone!
Congrats @uncsahopefulmom!!!
My son is interviewing tomorrow 2/17 for the film program. He is really nervous! Does anyone have any tips for him for the interview? He is most nervous about the story prompt - he has heard he has 15 minutes to write a story and read it to the panel. Any advice would be great!
Story prompt is correct. It was a great challenge. He’ll have 3 choices. The prompt my son chose was: 15 minutes ago…
Tell him to be himself. Come prepared with a few questions. One of the ones my son asked was do you own your work after you’ve produced it at the school. Sit somewhere interesting. I had my son sit with some cool artwork we have in the house behind him. Oddly, they commented on that. The interviewer will ask him to read them the story he writes back just so you know. That’s all I can think of. I’ll ask my son too and see if he has further input. Good luck.
Thank you! That is very helpful. I told him exactly that - be yourself. He is so passionate about film, that I’m hoping it just shines through. If you or your son can think of anything other tips (especially about the prompts- eeks!), please let me know and I’ll pass it on. Hopefully the more info he has, the less nervous he’ll be! Thanks again!
@HappyMom4 Hi! I did my interview in November, and there’s another thread where I answered another mom’s question about her kid interviewing. When I interviewed they mainly asked me about my life in Germany, and not that much about the films that I wanted to make. I actually asked them if they wanted to hear about the types of films I wanted to make, and they were eager to hear. I also asked about the German program at their school. I’d suggest your son come with a good amount of questions to ask that won’t be answered on the website. I’d also suggest that he have a good idea of who his favorite director/screenwriter is, and his favorite film, because they asked me about that. They asked me about books I’d read recently, and whether I felt if my strengths were in directing or screenwriting. They might also ask you about the portfolio you submitted- they asked me which countries I’d filmed the elements of my portfolio in.
@misstrendy Did they say anything about your son’s portfolio when he interviewed?
Okay, thanks! I just texted a screenshot of your post to my son. He definitely knows his favorite films/directors, etc. and will have no problem talking about that. He is mostly worried about the story prompt. I’ll let you know what happens!
He just finished the interview and he said it went really really well!!! So yay! Thank you both again for the tips.
My son got a call a few weeks ago and they said he was deferred but not to be discouraged as he is still a top candidate. Well of course he is discouraged but still hoping he will get in. Does anyone know how being deferred works and how long the wait is? This is his #1 choice. Thanks for any info.
My son was initially deferred after he interviewed in November but got accepted about two weeks ago. I believe the last round of interviews was just last weekend so I would expect he should hear in the next few weeks. Unfortunately if he is still waitlisted he may then be waiting for students to accept/not accept their spots and that wait can be indefinite. Good luck!!! Waiting is horrible!!
My son just interviewed on 2/17 so we are now waiting too. We were told there is actually one additional weekend of interviews that was added after his. So, I do not think they are finished interviewing yet. They told him they will admit some students right away (as early as the Monday that immediately followed his interview), but we haven’t heard anything. Waiting is definitely horrible!
Hey debbi0106, I am a current 1st year here. I wasn’t deferred, but I was waitlisted until I got the call in the middle of May, so I know how awful the wait is. It sucks, but try to not be discouraged. There’s talk around here that the school’s taking a larger amount of film students this year than in my current class so hopefully your son gets the good news. Let me know if you have any questions
@pjar21 Hi! My friend wants to know how many film students they’re accepting this year- do you know how many they might take and why they might take more than previous years? Thanks!
Hi guys! I am a first year filmmaking student at UNCSA. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me:
@awkwardambition we don’t know specifics. All I can tell you is 77 enrolled in the fall and there’s 75 now. I believe they might take in 85+ but don’t quote me it’s just speculation. If I hear anything more I’ll update you.
@uncsastudent I’m in section 2 what section are you in? I know this is college confidential but I’m curious who else from our class is on here
My daughter interviewed on 2-17-18 and she received a deferral email. Can anyone tell me when that happens what is the chance of an actual acceptance? How long is the wait usually after the initial contact? UNCSA is her top choice, and we are praying this comes through for her.
Hey @CCRcounselor I interviewed last year on Feb 18, 2017 and heard back on March 20th that I was waitlisted… then heard back middle of May that I was off the waitlist and could attend if I wanted.
Your best bet is to have a response by 3 weeks into March.
Best of luck to your daughter!
@uncsastudent Hi, My S was just admitted to the UNCSA film program on Friday. He is really excited. Can you tell me what your day is like? I understand you have core classes in the morning and film classes/production work in the afternoon. Is that accurate? My S is ready to work hard and totally immerse himself but we are just curious how much down time you have? Do you get enough sleep, time for fun, etc.? Thanks!
